While I was breaking down some of the witnessing questions ("evangelical survey" questions designed to begin a conversatioin about the Lord) that I posted a couple days ago and adding some Bible verses to support the topics, I developed this first question as a "spin off" from another question:
How many of the Ten Commandments can you name? What do you think the Ten Commandments are for? What is their purpose? They’re God’s standard of goodness (moral excellence). If God judged you by the Ten Commandments, would you be innocent or guilty? Does that concern you? He has made a way for you to be saved from His wrath. Do you know what He did for you? But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom. 5:8 He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross as the payment for our sins. If you repent (explain what it means) and put your trust in the Savior, He will give you everlasting life and you will be saved from His wrath. The Bible says you will have passed from death into life.
BTW – The Ten Commandments make us uncomfortable. They expose our sin for how it really is. That’s why people are so anxious to get rid of public reminders of them.
Now here is a question that we were using going door-to-door:
If you could ask God one thing, what would it be? …the world is passing away, and the lust of it… James 2:17 Parable of rich fool (Luke 12:13-21) – all his riches and everything he’d acquired didn’t do him any good on the night he died and stood before God. It was like he’d never had it. Do you think you’re a good person? Go through Ten Commandments. If God judged you by the Ten Commandments, would He find you innocent or guilty? Would you go to heaven or hell? Does that concern you? Would you like to restate your request to God? What would you ask Him for now? He has made a way for you to be saved from His wrath. Do you know what He did for you? But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom. 5:8 He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross as the payment for our sins. We broke the law, but Jesus paid our fine. If you repent (explain what it means) and put your trust in the Savior, He will give you everlasting life and you will be saved from hell.
