Praisin' the Lord Today!!

Posted in A Day in My Life

I took hubby in today for a screening colonoscopy - he turned 50 this year so it was just one of those things.  But his stomach is always hurting, and he was afraid there just might be something wrong.  Well, praise the Lord, the doctor said he was one healthy man and had a very clean colon!  He won't have to have another one for 10 years.  Hubby thinks his stomach must be hurting due to stress, so we're going to have to work on something for him to relieve stress.  I'll be searching the 'net to find some herbs that might help him.  When he's on an antidepressant, it helps a lot, but he doesn't like being on so much meds (he also takes something for cholesterol and blood pressure), so he's not been on one since January.   If anyone would be willing to share what you do to relieve stress, I would love to hear what works for you!

Blessings,

Carol

Monday, July 9, 2007 - It sounds minor, but exercise!

Posted by Anonymous

Hi Carol,

I hope you don't mind that I'm making an anonymous comment on your blog, but I read that you are looking for stress reducers, and I must tell you that I have discovered that 35-40 minutes of sweat-producing exercise alleviates my anxiety disorder to the point that I do not need prescriptions. I get on an elliptical trainer machine for this. I am serious about the sweating part - unless I am breathing hard and sweating, it doesn't seem to be enough to make a difference!

Also, I have found this works pretty well when symptoms are ACUTE - like when I'm worrying about a particular situation or feeling overwhelmed.

One other thing that helps is peppermint tea. Actually, I woke up feeling "anxious" this morning at 4 am and was too sleepy to exercise, so I made myself some peppermint tea. I felt MUCH better immediately. (I know this is counter-intuitive because I think peppermint is supposed to be stimulating, but I feel calmer)

I hope these will be a help to you!

Blessings,
April

It seems like I have always had stomach problems but last year it just seemed to have gotten worse. I went and had a colonoscopy done and found that I had a twisted colon. The doctors also said my symptoms looked like IBS due to stress and food allergies. I found that if I ate dairy and grease my symptoms would get worse. They did give me some medicine to relieve the spastic colon which does help alot. I have changed my diet and try to pray away stress. I am feeling so much better now.

I hope your husband can find out what is causing his problems.

Best Wishes,

Ma

Well I can tell you what helped my husband. He was having prostate problems and got himself worked up pretty good. First of all, restorative sleep is essential in healing the body and reducing stress. So with that in mind I started using lavendar essential oil. When I changed the sheets (once a week) I would put one drop of the oil on each corner of the pillow and then put the pillowcase on and go about my day. Do not use too much because too much lavendar can overstimulate. I would change the bed first thing in the morning so that it had time to "calm down". This simple step helped greatly in allowing him to get into a full sleep state. I would also urge him to lay off all caffeine. It is horrible on the stomach. Hope some of these things might help him.
