Homemade Laundry Detergent Reaction????
Posted in A Day in My Life
|
My son Luke has been breaking out with a very itchy rash off and on for the past week. The only thing that I can think of that we have been doing differently is making our own laundry detergent using Crystal's (quiverfull) recipe. We have already used one batch and are on our second one, so it doesn't really seem that the laundry soap could be it, but I can't think of anything else. Has anyone had an allergic reaction to this? Or have any other ideas????!!! I sure hope it's not the soap, because I really love this recipe. I just can't think of anything else it could be.

I'm not sure if it would be the soap or not. I used crystal's recipe, too. The washing soda is in alot of detergents as well. What bar soap did you use? Maybe it is that soap your son is reacting too. I used Ivory for one... the soap was mild, but didn't clean our farm chore clothes very well. I tried Zote... liked the smell, but had a horrible time grating it. This last batch I used Fels Naptha and it is cleaning much better, but I also switched to Maa's recipe and hers used more washing soda and I like it alot more for our chore clothes. I know that soaps can give you an irritation... the basic soaps of borax and washing soda probably wouldn't be high allergan causes, but could be... I would guess the bar soap choice would be a higher cause for an allergic reaction. Good luck finding the cause... hopefully he just ran through some itchy weed. Or maybe it is the bar soap and just changing that would be simple as can be...
Warmly, Melissa
