Homesteading Skills

Posted in Homesteading

Here is my list of  homesteading skills I would like to learn this year:

learn to sew

learn to quilt

learn to knit and/or crochet (I have one daughter learning to knit, and one learning to crochet!)

learn to make soap

make own laundry detergent

learn to can

learn to make do or do without  (probably the hardest for me!)

I know there's many more skills I'll need to learn, but I would like to master these at the very least.

Blessings,

Carol

That's a great list. I am also currently working on several of those. Especially, making do.

How wonderful! You, your mother and daughters are in for such a treat (and frustrations unfortunately). There is no greater reward than creating something yourself. I worked sewing, canning, needlework, candlemaking, soapmaking, wood working, gardening and all manner of arts and crafts into our curriculum when I homeschooled. (Ah....the wonderful field trips that we took to visit soap and candlemakers, herb farms, bee keepers, garden shops, fabric stores (all free to visit and most people love to explain their passions!) I found that all of these 'home economic' classes incorporated math, science and history. (even bible studies and reading!) If you ever need any help, give a holler. You could even have fridays as a "learning day" for just this type of classes. And as long as you "use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without", you'll be just fine!
