ON MY WAY TO WORK

I am just getting ready for work. As I sit here dreading it,I have to remind myself that we are just a few years away from our dream! Why does it seem like forever? I am the night manager at a grocery store. The pay is not so good, but with me working nights we don't have to pay for daycare. I can't wait to just be at home with my husbby and kids. My hubby and I rarely see one another. We do not even share the same days off. Whenever I get blue about it, I just tell myself over and over again, that I only have to do this for two more years. Sometimes it works.   I just keep praying for the strength to get through the day!

        BACK TO THE DREAM!!!!!!

I would like to ask anyone who reads this for help.  We are curious as to how much land we should be looking for.  We are planning on having 3 horses (a family member is getting them for the kids),  a cow or two,  a few pigs,  and of course chickens! We would also like to have a huge garden. How many acres should we be looking for? Also we were thinking of doing some crop farming. We have, however, never farmed and do not know anyone who has. We just would like to give it a go!

Well off to work I go! I will be adding photos late tonight.

I have no advice for you, but I do admire your effort to work and help your dh. We are in a similar predicament. I'm looking for an outside job to help with the expenses. We live in such a small town and it is beginning to seem like we'll be this way forever. I
wish you the best.

I dont know how much land you would need, I would guesstimate about 4 to 5 acres to be on the good side of things.
I know its hard now with working and all, but hang in there to see that dream come true.
Take care and good luck.

Saturday, December 30, 2006 - Acres

Posted by Ashli

My parents have over 10 and it's a bit over what they needed. They have a large garden, several apple, chestnut, and pear trees, a very large field, a huge evergreen farm area, plenty of space for their home, creeks, and so forth. So they have plenty of space for more things than what they wanted. I would suggest 5 to 8 acres, but if you want crop land up to 12 acres may work better. What type of crop? Corn? (One of the easier crops..)

We had over 49 acres, a huge barn for tobacco (back in the day it was nice growing that crop...we no longer do..), sheds for pigs, chickens, and goats. Horses. A well house, the main house.... but we only used 12 acres of the 49....the parts we didn't use were nice for hiking and hunting however :o) Rabbits, big dogs....well, I could go on and on.

For crop growing you need extra acres for sure, though. See what others say, go and talk to some farmers out where you're looking to buy (they will talk to you, trust me! :o) ) and enjoy the research!! You will get there!
