My sweet 16

Last week I turned 16. I decided to do my party in something rather than July 4th celebration. So I did a garden party. We had it outside for a few minutes until we got rained out so we moved it inside. Mama said that my party was a lot of hard work because of the planning and cost of everything. But it was succesful.
I invited my family and my youth director, other youth workers from my church and my good friend Addy. For food we did pigs in a blanket, fruit/veggie trays, chips, kool-aid, tea, and lemonade. We bought a glass pitcher and sliced lemons, then put the sliced lemons and lemonade in the pitcher.
For my cake this year we did something a little different. Mama still made the cake but we put fondant on the cake. We made the flowers out of colored fondant, also. Ok. Maybe we did use a little icing for the cake but that was so that the fondant would stay on the cake. Everybody says that fondat doesn't really have a flavor to it. But I think it tastes great.

I opened my presents. I got:
A ton of cards, a few journals (guess I'll have to write a lot more), a new bike with gears (not used to the gears yet), flowery tote bags (one small one big), DDR (Dance, Dance, Revolution), an extra DDR dance mat, butterfly stickers, and other goodies.
Woo. All that typing - my hands and fingers hurt.
Mama asked me what if I going to do college or be a stay-at-home mom. I told her I am not really sure. A part of me wants to go to college but the other half wants to be a stay-at-home mom. I might buy an herbalist college computer program for home. But I am going into 10th grade right now.
I follow the Lord's path to when I grow up.

Happy Belated Birthday! Your cake looks beautiful! I used fondant on my daughter's cake, and I didn't think it had a lot of flavor, it was just sweet, but you can always add flavor to it if you want!

It sounds like you had a great day and your cake was beautiful.
You could go to college and be a stay at home mom, you could go to a community college to not wrack up a lot of debt but still have a degree (or some schooling) to fall back on.
happy birthday!

oops, that was me; a homestead daughter. :-)
Happy 16th Birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To tell you the truth, I had thought you were like 13-14, my age. :) haha... I guess I was wrong.
Sounds like you got a bunch of neat things for your birthday. I think you should start journaling in those soon, you sound like you have a ton of journals. I finished my first one last year. It was about an inch thick. It took me two years to get through with it, not writing every day in it. I have another one just like it but I hope to get it at least half way finish by the end of this year.
A garden party birthday? Hmm... I was thinking of having something like that for my 15th birthday this year. The only thing is that my birthday is in November, and it's usually pretty windy up here by that time. Oh well, maybe I will have an indoor one, as the rain seemed to think you needed to. ;)

That's funny that we were going to do the same recipe. I just thought I would put it on there and submit it to the Homesteading Carnival. Better to have made sure I got in there than forget about it.
Well, I can't wait to see it. :)
hope your birthday was a great one!
Love,
Rachel

Sounds like a wonderful day. I know what is like to recieve a ton of journals! Everyone always tells me that I can use them to write down my short stories and peoms in (my family and friends are really supportive of the idea that I want to be a writer, which I really do), but I always end up using a school note book or one of my moleskin notebooks, I am afraid of ruining the beautiful pages in my new journals, so have about 19 journals and I have only used 3 of them!
I hope you had a really great birthday! The cake was beautiful. I hope it was really fun for you, despite the rain, it tends to ruin garden parties.
I am torn between going to college and being a stay at home wife or mother. If I go to college it does not mean I cannot become a stay at home wife once I am married. I want to go to college and get a MA in history, I can write history articles for magazines from home! My father really wants me to go to school, so I will go and study something I love, History.
Well, I will stop going on and on!
Sincerely,
~Mary-Ann~
