A gorgeous fall afternoon!

Posted in Daily Life
What a great day we've had here. Church was wonderfully uplifting this morning. This afternoon the sun came out and warmed us up to about 70. It was a perfect fall afternoon!

Rabbit pics...

Posted in The Homestead
Here are the pictures of the bunnies and their new house.
First is the picture of the rabbit house that Mark and Jeff finished by using duck hunting lights on their hats after dark Sunday night.

Here's Charlie Chaplin. He's such a friendly little guy!

Next here is Violet. I gave her her name this morning. She's just like a little shy violet...trying to not be seen in the back of her cage. She likes to be pet...she's just a shy little girl.

And, last, but by no means least here's our second little girl. So far she still needs a name. I'm sure one will come to us soon.

Everyone is so glad to have the new animals on the place...I wonder what we can see at First Monday in December!  :)

Blessings,
Leigh-Ann

Trade days weekend!

Posted in The Homestead
Well, we headed off to Trade Days Saturday morning not really planning on coming home with a lot of anything. Well, the best laid plans and all that!!
There are now 3 rabbits living here and Jeff found an AWESOME deal on his cockatiels. He found an older lady selling them for an incredible price...he was able to get a pair for 1/3 the cost of one at the pet store.
After we came home with all of the new friends (it was getting to hot to leave them in the car. We agreed to head back yesterday morning so that everyone could really look around...not just in the animal aisle) we headed up to the city to get the cockatiel cage that we agreed to get him after he could afford his cockatiels!!  We also ran by TSC to get rabbit stuff.
Yesterday afternoon we headed back to Lowe's and picked up supplies for Mark and Jeff to build the rabbit house we designed on the fly! We used a corner by the clothesline that was a pain to mow. I'll have to take a picture of the new house and those that now live there. Jeff and I moved the rabbits out of the sunporch this morning.
The boy rabbit is named "Charlie Chaplin" because of the mustache he has. I still need to come up with names for the 2 ladies.
It seems like things never slow down around here. In fact, I don't think we'd know what to do if they did!!

Blessings,
Leigh-Ann

New pets!!

Posted in Daily Life
It's been a very big pet month around here!! Jeff has a betta, Mellie has 2 hermit crabs, Amanda got herself a hamster, Mark has a new fish tank that he wants to put live plants in and have a sort of pond tank, and I have a parakeet named Ike.  It's been very exciting around here this last month.

Oh yeah, we also have chicks in the brooder box in the garage!!

The kids earned help buying their pets by saving a portion of the cost with their allowances. The girls agreed on an amount with Mark and then we picked up the remainder. It's been a very good lesson on saving for what you want! Right now we've got a deal with Jeff that if he saves enough for the cockatiel that he wants we'll pay for the cage.

Blessings,
Leigh-Ann

Canning and sewing...Sewing and canning

Posted in Daily Life
This weekend has been fun...the first 3 quarts of applesauce are done and there are 14 quarts of chicken stock on the kitchen counter waiting for me to find room in the pantry for it. I probably still have 4 or 5 quarts of stock to do up today and I've still got 15 pounds of apples to turn into sauce. After that's done I'll go and get more apples. I'd love to have the pantry full of sauce, apple butter and pie filling!!

We've also been busy with the sewing machine! Last month I finished 2 dresses for myself and have another about 1/2 done. Mellie and Amanda have new nighties and I have fabric for another for each. I also picked up enough fabric for a couple for myself. I've also gotten a new jumper pattern for each of us for this fall and winter. I need to grab some lightweight denim for those.

Right now I've got to go and see the "birds of prey" flying over our field that Mellie came to tell me about.

Blessings,
Leigh-Ann

About Me

I'm a Christian woman who has had the blessing of being married to my best friend for a little more than 19 years. I'm also a homeschooling mom to our 3 great kids. We're trying to figure out how to stay country when country is disappearing at an alarming rate here in our little corner of the world.

Pray with St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is discord, vision. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
