:: The joys in moving

That seems like an oxymoron when I think about it....the joys in moving.  I've always confessed how much I've hated it, in the past.  And we've moved alot.  I think we counted 15 times since 1991, which to me is an awful lot.  Some of these past moves were 3 in one year.  Moving is supposed to be high on the "stress of life" scale.  Anyway...we were without a phone for more than a week, with the holidays and all.  Having DSL on the line took longer to move.  I've been out of the loop now and was having withdrawals wanting to hear what my new online friends were up to, wanting to learn from my new online mentors.  Finally, I can.  WOOHOO.

We finally got moved in on New Years Eve.  The movers were there by 9:15 am and we were finished by 2 pm.  Not bad except that it kept me on my toes non stop.  Moving down in house size hasn't been easy for this packrat.  I do keep things.  Things that remind me of special people or special memories.  And my hubby is almost as bad.  We've both got lots of baggage sotospeak that we've moved, and moved and moved.  Here is where I find the joy in moving.  Now that I've been given this newfound inspiration to be an organized, clutter free stay at home mom, this new mindset to get rid of clutter and to stay on top of household responsibilities, I'm so motivated to get rid of the junk.  I can't wait.  To have everything in it's place and a place for everything is my mom.  Never been me but not anymore.  I will have an orderly home.

This new home we've moved into is a 1910 bungalow.  2 beds 1 bath with a small but finished basement.  The basement is about 20 x 20 so we've had to be very organized to get the stuff in there.  And every single cubby hole possible is now stuffed with boxes, bags, bins of our  stuff.  But today, I have no sick children home, no car to cause me to have to run errands, and lots of time to make a dent in this mess.  It's so fulfilling to get things organized and get rid of the clutter.  A new feeling for me.  And I do see the joy in having organization.  The smallness of this home requires me to stay organized.  Our kitchen is very much like a prairie kitchen.  Few cabinets, much fewer than I just had.  It's required the use of every bookcase we have to have the shelf space to hold our abundance.  There is fun in this.  It's an adjustment for us all.  DS is learning new ways of putting things in their place.  It's a must since there is little room for clutter to even begin.  Not a bad thing at all.  Our porch is full of "stuff" that won't fit in here and I hate looking at it.  Even more, I hate our new neighbors having to look at it.  We live right across the street from a church and I really hate for the parishioners to have to look at this when they come on Sundays. So I have much motivation to get a move on.

It's been a purposeful choice to find joy in the move.  The circumstances that brought about the move could be viewed as failure.  But God's ways are not our ways.  And I know that I know His hand is in this.  I find the most joy in this fact.

Hope that everyone has had a blessed start to the new year.  New beginnings are inspiring and motivating.  They are clean, a blank slate at times.  Let us write good things for the present and the future.

Hello

I couldn't sleep and thought I'd spend a few minutes seeing who else is a night owl at Homestead Blogger. LOL

What a wonderful thing to have found joy in something you used to dread! I have moved so many times in my life - like 30+. I don't like it or dislike it. I just do it. :)

Well, I guess I should go try to get some sleep. Today is my husband's and my anniversary. Except he is still on the road (OTR truck driver). He should be home this evening, though.

Have a good night! ~Robin

Thank you Robin
