Been A Busy Week!.... Wheeewww

Well we have new animals!! LOL Like we need anymore but we have to have a few more to complete the menagerie! So we now have rabbits... New Zealand and California crosses for meat. They are HUGE especially compared to my Youngest DD's little hotot dwarf!! LOL This is one of the Does. She is a 3 yr old a little old but still young enough to raise a few litters. They dont have names yet. They lack a lot of personality so kind of hard to name them!! Tehy all basically look like her....

Now On to the new pig... He is young he wont be 8 weeks till Wednesday. He is a little crabby too! LOL But he was taken from momma! He is fussing and growling at us. But he is cute!!! He will be used to breed the red wattle/Tamworth cross we have already.

Next is the lamb I couldn't resist putting new pictures up. He likes to be held just not caught.LOL momma is still not real sure of us but does tolerate us holding baby boy.. That's him at the top too..

We are butchering chickens Monday! Yeah!! LOL It will be so fun!! hmmm maybe I should add pics of how we butcher.. We don't currently pluck just skin and use them like that. Anyways that's all I have for now.. Have a good weekend all..

Looong Weekend....

It is Simply life....... No luck on finding the baby.. It has been all day long and we have even drove down in the fields looking for him and we haven't found anything...  All of our fence isnt secure as we want but we do have 2 LGD's and the pasture they were in was pretty good and almost done. Its almost like someone reached over the fence and grabbed him!! We do have a neighbor I dont trust but I dont think he would waste his time on a little lamb.... We have had problems with the neighbors dog but since we got the LGDs he has stayed on his side of the road mostly. The pic is of the one that is left...

Anyways My friend that owns the farm came in for a quick visit. She was so happy to be here and get to see the animals. We were going non stop since Thursday! I am not a non stop person!!! LOL This morning we were all so wore out we slept through the alarm!! SO hubby was a bit late for work..

We went to a swap meet Friday and Saturday. We werent able to stay long Friday so the girls and I went back Saturday and spent several hours there. We came home with some Muscovy ducklings, a pair of doves, honey, fruit and veggies... They had all kinds of stuff there. Every kind of bird you can think of.... Here are some Peacocks and hens that were there. i had never seen some with the blue in patches like this. It doesnt show real well in the pic though. It looked like the blue on the other peacocks but it was in patches. It was different.

They had every kind of pigeon you could think of too. All types and colors!! Chickens were every where! That is just naming a few animals there. And then the stuff!! LOL They did have some good cages for a good price but I didnt have any way to get them home... A good cage always comes in handy!

Thursday I made a ham roast for supper with mash potatoes, gravy and salad. Then We used the meat for sandwhiches the next day and then Friday night we had lamb/goat burgers for supper with salad. They were so good!! My friend left Saturday morning and she probably wont be back till fall 2009.

I was so wore out yesterday due to the weekend and my allergies are horrible. Ragweed doesnt like me.. I didnt get much done!!  SO I had to do that stuff today... Which involved moving most of the  animals.

I had to move the pigs so the goats and sheep could get to the barn. In the process our horse jumped the panel to get with the other horses!!!  I didnt want her out there because she is hard to catch still and they would make it impossible!! Sure enough they had her running like crazy. The others are suppose to be geldings but the one must be proud cut. He was acting all crazy. We finally got him separated from her. There is still opne in with her but he doesnt cause the trouble the other 2 do!! The one gelding kept picking on Scooter(our mare) and she whirled around and kicked him square in the chest!!! She was ticked!!LOL She is an older quarter horse but she let them know she was boss!!LOL  Anyways in order to get the horses separated we had to move the cows so they would stay out of the way! The only things that didnt get moved was the chickens unless they were in the way of the running horses!! Quite the eventful evening!!  Good thing I had supper made already!

I used the left over roast to make soup with some french bread!! It was good!!! Even though I didnt make the bread.. I cheated and bought bread..... It was good anyways.I am heading to bed soon. We have to get back in the swing of things tomorrow... I hope everyone has a good night.

We Have BABIES!!!

It is Simply life.......
They were born this morning. Our Light colored Blackbelly Barbados Ewe finally had them!! Twin boys! They are so cute! She wasn't real sure about us handling them but watched from a distance and was fine with it! As soon as we sat them down she quickly checked them out to make sure they were okay.. They were still wet when we saw them and she hadn't even passed the after birth yet. But she is fine and so are they! Nice even sized twins... Yeah!!

Battle Of The Americauna......

It is Simply life.......
I have one determined roo.... He is an Americauna roo and is very pretty but not what I want for future generations here on the farm so to the freezer he is headed. But he dont see it that way!! LOL every night I throw him and and every morning he is back in!! Now I dont have the best pen to keep him out right now But it discourages most of the others,... Needless to say my Chicken tent has a few holes now... It doesnt even hold water anymore... Lets just say it filters it... Through plastic.. But I will win this war The roo just doesnt know it yet... But he will find it out... Oh yes he will!....LOL

What A Day......

It is Simply life.......

It wasn't real eventful yesterday till Kyle came home and had a small hole in his truck window!! Apparently when a rock about 2 inches wide comes flinging out of a semi tire at 60mph it makes a hole.... Huh? Who knew! Then he was cleaning up some limbs in the yard and had a stack of wood started and drove a couple fence post to keep the stack and wouldn't you know it hit the phone line!!! He doesn't know yet!! He tried everything but couldn't figure out where the dial tone had went!!LOL Well The phone man found it today!! Fortunately it doesn't cost us! I am back online so I am happy!

The ducks have been making themselves at home.. They have grown quite a bit.. Since we didn't get them small they are real skittish though. I want some smaller ones that wecan handle and make a little more tame.
Then to top off everything the pigs and dogs didn't eat all of the remains from processing the sheep and goats... SO we got to haul it off last night!!! I don't have a weak stomach!!But that was almost more then I could handle!! It had only been there 2 days! But oh my!!! I am heading out to take Dinah to get spayed wish me luck on getting her loaded!!!

New Week!...

It is Simply life.......

The owner of the farm we manage will be here this week!!! Its her first visit since we took over a couple of months ago!... I am a little nervous. We do stay in almost daily contact through email but still in person is much more nerve wracking. We have had everything happen from goat with a broken leg to one of the LGD's going after my daughter.....  We have been flooded, had disagreements with the hay guy....  Its been a rather eventful 2 months.

We are also going to a swap meet. Talk about hillbilly entertainment!! They have everything you can think plus a few you never thought of!! LOL Some say its 40 acres of animals, people and stuff! I guess we will see....

Plans for our 14th wedding anniversary in November is to get in the little truck and drive to a part of Missouri  we havent been to... Which I have been to alot of it seeing how I was born and raised here but North of the Missouri river is almost unseen by us... Its been years since we went some where just the 2 of us. We usually stay home and send the kids to Nana and Grampies house. But they are staying here and watching kids and animals. I think it will be fun... We enjoy time together and like talking to each other. We usually talk each other's ears off after a while... Its great to know someone values your opinion and admires you Especially if you are married to him!!  LOL

I am feeling much better today and so is my youngest DD, she was sick too. That is her last night out with some of the goats. They had her surrounded and was begging for hugs and pets!!

Puny Day!! GO AWAY RAGWEED!!!

It is Simply life.......Anyways If you cant tell ragweed is really kicking my butt!! It has made me Ick all day!!!
I did get out at about sundown and took some pics of goats, sheep and roos!

First are the sheep bedded down for the night. The light colored Barbados is the one we are watching for babies!! It has to be soon when you see her from the front its like oooo poor thing but she just keeps bouncing along!!

Next is Handsome being .... well Handsome!!! LOL Apparently he was smelling something!!

And here is Dottie my Nubian/Boer cross she was out of the very first goat my mom brought home and when she sold the rest and kept Dottie and her mom Polly we lost Polly due to inexperience and parasites. Dottie is an amazingly robust girl!! Has babies no problem and very rarely needs wormed!! 1st babies were twins and girls 2nd year twin boys. So this next year twin Boy and Girl!!!LOL Makes sense don't it??? She was fighting for attention in the pic. Gina my rescue girl was underneath my hand and Dottie was there and in the background you can see Ethel one of Dottie's girls trying to get a pet in there too!!
The Roos roosting in the tree. There are actually about 10 roos in there and they roost there every night!!
We are going to have visitors this week!! Looking forward to it! Also Dinah goes in to get spayed. It will be so fun loading her!!! We are also going to a swap meet I will have to take pictures.... I am sure they will let me!! I am excited! Have a good night!

Busy Day Yesterday!!!

It is Simply life.......

Started out at 5 am yesterday getting ready for the yard sale and getting chores done before people started showing up. Was done by 7am... I went out and about 10 minutes later 1st customer showed up... I would bet I didn't go 20 minutes the rest of the day till 5pm with out some one driving up. Apparently this is a good place to have a yard sale!! LOL The funniest thing was talking to all the people.. Met a neighbor down the road. She was nice and she had lived here in this area forever she said!! LOL

Then Kyle got home and we were butchering 3 sheep and 2 goats. I figured 45-minutes to an hour for each one and that's what it took 5 hours..... Boy were we tired!!! But I told him I know I am doing better with it because while I was looking at the stomachs and such I was thinking how hungry I was since I hadn't really ate all day!!! Then I started laughing about it... Some people wouldn't understand.. But it was cooler so not so smelly and it doesn't bother me as bad as when it smells! I was checking to see if there were any visible signs of parasites and I am happy to report I didn't see any visible signs!! We got that done and the carcasses in the freezer and they are on their way to the processors this morning.

I also messed up with the Daisy the cow! I had let her back out with everyone else to graze but kept the halter on well a burr worked its way under the halter right on her hose!! I feel soooo Bad!! I got the halter off and have to go put some wound salve on it. That'll be fun!! The pic isn't Daisy but Lana is sporting the reason for Daisies pain!! And a little poke berry juice!!LOL I don't care if Burdock Might taste good I don't like the stuff!! I hope the pigs get it ALL!

Right now I just want to crawl back in bed and sleep But the puppies have to go out.. Goats need milked and everything else taken care of.... Also a birthday party for the Twin DD's. SO I need to clean and bake cake!! No one to help me either!! They have all run off!! Just kidding.. Girls are at Nana's and Kyle is working..

SO I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Goat Wrap Is Working!!!

It is Simply life.......

The goat that was limping and the one with a broken leg I wrapped them with a epsom salt, lavender and a few other things thrown in for good measure rag.. One had almost all swelling gone still limping occasionally but acting better!! Other one swelling has went down but of course his leg was broke....  SO yeah!!!

Here is the little Red Wattle boar that will be coming to the farm in October!

Here are my girls drawing yesterday Out of the reach of the horses who interfere with everything! I know our neighbors think we are weird!! LOL. When it flooded the girls went down in the field and were wading in it After it calmed down of course!! But they had found crawdads! So they were happy! They snuck them into the aquarium!! Little turtles ate the smaller one but the bigger one is living in a rock pile....  Anyways the neighbors dad pulled in and Kyle was down there and he said..." Umm do you all know there are 2 kids playing in the water down the road?..." Kyle laughed said Yep that would be MINE!! It wasnt a road it was our drive......

They also took the canoe out on the pond! They love that thing! Its nice of the neighbor to let us use it Maybe tax time we should get a boat for them....

This morning the pigs almost had lamb for breakfast!!! One of the ram lambs got in with them and when I was trying to get him out he kept running to the pigs and the pig sniffed and sniffed him and then slowly placed his mouth around his leg. When I hollered no the pig jumped back! LOL Like she Knew better!!! They say pigs are smarter then dogs........... Here are 2 of the 3  we have right now. Miss Bossy Bacon is the taller one in front.

I am off to transplant some herbs and house plants......

Its Tuesday!!

It is Simply life.......

Got up early this morning!!It was dark still and foggy! I love the way the fog rolls in from the holler here... Its very pretty and soothing first thing in the morning. I could sit in my big puffy recliner in front of the Huge window, drink coffee and watch the fog roll through... Of course then it makes me drowsy and I have a tendency to fall asleep!!
Picture is Shammy the horse that started my morning yesterday!!! Ornery thing!!! He knew better to because when he came back yesterday afternoon and I opened the door he tried to run where I couldn't see him. When I said his name he ducked his head down.. He is quite the character!! As you can see he has also tangled with the Burdock burrs!!! And why he would eat rocks who knows!! LOL Maybe he is lacking something!!

I have a limping goat still so I soaked a rag in Epsom salt, Lavender and a few other things and wrapped it I am going to try and do that a few times today and see if that helps. It doesn't seem to be hurt more then maybe twisted. I have caught the horses a few times running the goats!! I guess they think goats aren't worth their time except to torment!

We put more hay in the chicken pen. All that the goats and sheep had picked through in the barn during the rain and maybe if my oldest quites flooding it wont be so wet!! But the chickens are happily picking through the hay!! Scratching around and clucking among themselves!! I cant wait for the herd of roosters(we call them the Network!!) to go to the freezers so I can let them out all the time. I really cant wait to get their new home on wheels done so they can live the life of Luxury!!! LOL It will have lights and everything!!

I have a personal pet peeve with people.. If you know you cant afford Why WHY? do you buy it....LOL that's all I am going to say...

I was rereading the raw milk laws for Missouri I found out I am doing everything legal!!! I can take milk to people or they can come here but I cant sell it wholesale... So That is good to know! I was okay! I guess I just read it wrong before....

I let the pigs out today into a different corral as they have ate so much down in the first... Well of course you know they don't want to stay there!! They found first available hole and Out they go into the yard.. we put them back and in less then an hour they are back in the yard so I have put them in a different paddock and will go out and find their hole and secure it!! There is much to be eaten! They aren't going to starve anytime soon! Its been beautiful weather lately Perfect if you ask me not so hot you want stand in front of the A/C all day and do nothing and not so cool you have to wear shoes(yes I'm a hillbilly and shuck my shoes every chance I get). Its been 70's-low 80's and 50-60* at night... Real good weather for anything!! That's it for now.........

Is it Monday Or WHAT?????

It is Simply life.......

Got up this morning and let the girls sleep in for another 30 minutes... So I was making coffee taking my time and looked out the window and the gate to the U was knocked down flat!?!? So then I notice on of my milk girls is limping... And the horses are in the U!! Apparently the thought 12 acres wasn't enough and they needed to be in the U where there is not much to eat and the milk girls get first dibs in there anyways!! So I get the girls up and we get going for the morning rush.. DD with rabbits comes in and starts telling me how her rabbit is losing hair around her face, ears and neck. She has problems with mites alot. Which After we get her from my MIL I find out oh yeah by the way Mini-Rex rabbits have trouble with mites alot?!?! Oh Great! So We take all cages down and clean real good other 2 rabbits are fine. We oil her down to help with the mites.
In the process next DD says we have a dead chicken!!! It was one I noticed yesterday that wasn't real active. It was a rooster from same DD that has the rabbits. Of course all her chickens she bought would have ended up being a rooster!! So to many roos and they killed this one is my guess. We removed all roos from the hen pen But the big one.. Some of the roos destined for the freezer had slipped back in when we weren't looking!! So back the one big guy and little silkies who we are not sure who is roos and who are hens!
So now the girls and I have gotten rabbit cages cleaned and the horses back where they belong .. Dead chicken moved out and fresh hay in the chicken pen. Goat is okay not nothing serious from what I can see. My actual plans for the day were Organizing the living room before it falls in on us!!!LOL Where did I go wrong????

Peace......

It is Simply life.......

Doesn't she look like a giant teddy bear!?!?! This is Dinah in one of her napping spots for the day. They are doing a good job guarding the place but they do need some help especially when everyone has babies!!!

The ducks tried bedding down at the other end of the pond but we herded them back to the other end. I don't want them to make a habit of it down there its to far away from everything.

I didn't have a yard sale today like was planned but I had severe allergies last night and it looks like I have a slight black eye from it!! All well that will give me another week to go thru some stuff and for my SIL to bring more over!!!

Next weekend is my twin DD's Birthday. They will be 11. Where did the time go???

Sheep In The POND?!?!?

It is Simply life.......

We went out to my brothers house to get our big truck tonight. When we got home I sent the girls out to check on a few things and one of them came running back saying there was a sheep in the pond!!!! Its our spotted Katahdin ewe! I don't know why or how! But I am thinking she got out and the dogs knew she was not where she should have been and tried to chase her back and she probably panicked and ran. Oldest DD had already pulled her out and she took off down towards where the neighbor's dog can get in still and I don't trust him to say the least! So we got her headed back up towards the house and into what we call the U. Its U shape around the house.. We thought to herd were into the tarp barn but she was having none of that!! She finally wedged herself between the fence and a hawthorn tree!(Thanks Sheep!) SO DD got the rope halter on her and we started pushing and pulling her towards the barn. Poor thing we probably freaked her out more!! She came straight up on her hind legs and caught DD in the nose. SO Kyle came out and helped us the rest of the way. She is in the tarp barn now and I hope she doesn't go into labor... Then when we were getting her settled in the barn I ran into a spider web!!! EEEEWWWW On my face no less!! I freaked and screamed like a little girl! Surprisingly hubby didn't laugh even though I did after I calmed down and realized I was okay!!!
SO she is in the barn where I can keep an eye on her for the night....Poor thing!

I am Back!!!

It is Simply life....... I am back on the site. So much has changed in our life since I had closed my blog... Well I am opening it up again. I am no longer on Dial up! YEAH!! We have also moved. We are managing a farm that is Certified Naturally Grown. We are raising Milk and meat goats, hair sheep,Dexter cattle, Red Wattle cross hogs, Chickens and Muscovy ducks. We also have some LGD"s that are Komondor/Anatolian cross. They have worked out great. We are closer to town and so not so much gas is being used. I am going to try milking one of the dexter's along with the goats. She has a halter on and will lead some. She is very food oriented! LOL

We are still homeschooling and have changed a few things with that. We have added unit studies and we are really enjoying it!!  Its added to what we have already but they had gotten a little bored and needed more. I have the Story of the World series ordered to add too..

I am looking forward to renewing some of the friendships I had started before here!

I hope everyone has a blessed day!!!

Closing my blog...

I am thinking about closing this blog... I love the idea of this blog site but me being on dial up and this site does not mix to well. It takes 5-10 minutes sometimes to load a page If it loads. I love reading what blogs I could load but they were few and far between. I do plan on coming back when I have something more then dial up but nothing more is available to me as of right now.

Have a good day!

Happy Thanksgiving All

It is Simply life....... I made my own veggie seasoning!! I did it quite by accident too!!LOL I was blending up something in the blender and thought hmmm I wonder.... LOL So I threw in some of my dried veggies, garlic, sweet basil and some other stuff. I have a quart of seasoning for just about anything I want to throw it in!! LOL I was so proud of myself!! I know..... Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall!! LOL

We are looking at some really cold weather this weekend and possibly snow. They said no accumulation BUT that has been said before... Like around last Thanksgiving and we got 2 inches I think!! We have a front porch full of wood so We would be okay with it!  I also have a real chicken house too! YEAH We got it done over the weekend. It still needs tin on the roof but it is good enough to keep them warm. I have all the hay feeders were I want them and all the animals have good winter coats!!

I am getting ready to start on stuff for Thanksgiving. I have an 18lb Turkey unthawing. All  kinds of plans just trying to get the kids motivated! SO I will tell everyone Happy Thanksgiving and Get busy!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This And That!

It is Simply life.......

SO I will start with 5am this morning... I was woke up to go deer hunting this morning and as I do every morning when I get up I look out to make sure everything looks okay with the animals... well it wasn't okay!! My aunt who lives around the corner has 2 Great Pyrenees that are about a year old. Well they were in my goat pen with the goats and horse rounded up! They wouldn't let them move. All my girls are pregnant too about 3 months now.. I had ran the dogs off about 10:30 last night and didn't think anything else about it. SO I go out and lock the goats back up. Kyle and I chase them off and thought they had headed back home. But NO we go out at about 6am and they are out behind the pens in the field and they follow us barking at us!! So it is scaring the girls and aggravating my husband. I go back to the house to call my aunt and Kyle and the girls head out to the woods.. Well the dogs follow them out to the woods. So they pretty much ruined the hunting for this morning. My uncle comes to get them and in the mean time they run to my parents and chase the horses.... I hope this does not become a habit!! I will not tolerate it. So after they were finally gone we tried to hunt but we were pretty much wore out!

We came back to the house and rested for awhile. Then went out and worked on the chicken house! YEAH!!! It is now snug and tight! All it needs is some paint on the outside and tin added to roof to get it weather proof.  I was so happy about that as we have a chance of snow next week. Yikes I am not ready for that!! After they roosted tonight we moved them inside the house. I think we will have to do that for a few nights to get them to start roosting in there. Its not huge but it is good enough! My hubby did a great job!! I wouldn't have got near as much done as quick as he did!!  He is so much better at building things then I am!!  It was dark when we finished and I still had supper to fix. But that's okay it was well worth it! I just hope those dogs don't come back!!  the goats were so tired that they slept in the barn till after 9am! Which is not them at all. I even stood at the barn door and talked to them they just looked at me and went back to sleep! Poor babies! Anyways that was what happened today!

I tried something new to use for butter for bread or whatever else. Its probably not anything new to some of you. But you take a pound of butter and a 16 oz bottle of olive oil and blend it together to make your own margarine. It is healthier for you and still has the butter taste just not as much.. We will see how well it goes over Thanksgiving!! I am making a big gooey chocolate cake!! Kyle told but me there will be pie.. I am not a pie person!!! LOL I do get to cook everything on a New to me glass top stove!!  Its only about 2 years old so its very nice and pretty!! LOL  It will be nice to cook on it!

Okay I have rambled on long enough! Have a good night all!

Beautiful Day

It is Simply life.......

We had a doctors appointment today. My youngest has Hashimoto's Disease Which is basically Hypothyroidism with a goiter. They have to draw blood every 6 months and check her hormone levels and once a year check for Celiac disease which the way they explained it, it is a sensitivity to gluten. We will see in a few days what her level are. But the bad thing was the lady taking blood today wasn't very good at it!! She had to dig into her arm and try to get the vein.. That was the first time that has happened! I was NOT happy at all. My poor girl was crying and you could tell it hurt. She usually looks the other way why they do stuff like that and gets it over with. So it made it worse when she started to cry! Tough on both of us!!

I have been asked to head up the goat project for my oldest girls 4H club!! Yikes a little worried about that!! Anyone have any advice on that???

We took the long way home today and it was beautiful!! I took alot of pics I will post them on my photobucket and give the link in a little while... Even though we had to go to the doctor is was a good day of all 5 of us out together. We did have to go shoe shopping too but got it done and over early. It was a good day!!

I hope everyone has a great night.
