The Heart of my Home...My kitchen

Do you ever walk into someones house and see that their kitchen is for show?  I guess it is all preference to each likings....I myself love my large farmhouse kitchen! I call it a "working kitchen"  I have my flours and sugars in large glass jars on the counters, my bread machine and crockpot....everything that I use day to day is within reach so I don't have to go digging it out, My kitchen isn 't for show, it is the heart of our home, I love to prepare our meals everyday, the family all gathers here when the come over.  It is the coziest room next to the family room in the house!  Many tears of joy and sadness have been shared over tea and coffee in this room.  My husbands mother and grandmother prepared meals and served them in here, I consider myself blessed to have such a wonderful large kitchen passed down to me!

Today I has been my baking day, no wonder I have been reflecting so much on my kitchen!  I have made 3 loaves of banana bread, pumpkin spice muffins, 3 loaves of wheat bread and a chocolate cream pie for dessert tonight. and I have a beef stew in the crockpot for dinner.

I have been spending some time reading others blogs this morning and have really enjoyed seeing that there are so many others here that I can relate to. Now off to finish some laundry and do some reading.

Loved your post on kitchen being the heart of the home and I so agree!! Our kitchen is under a remodel project right now and boy is it hard to work around that!! I love to cook and like you make all from scratch ~~ there really are more of "us" then you think of! Your house sounds warm and cozy today.. I am sure it smells wonderful too!!

I love this post. My kitchen is definately the heart of our home as well. It is not up to date, and not always neat and put away, because we love our kitchen and use it!!! A friend of mine spend lots of money redoing hers not too long ago and we were visiting her house last night. It is gorgeous, and she has all her cookbooks lined up on a shelf.....but she doesn't cook! LOL

I spend some 80 -90% of my day in my kitchen. It is most definatly the heart of this home. I too have large jars holding my everyday items. I do try to keep it organized, (cuz that is who I am) but I know that, like you said, it's a working kitchen, somedays, overworked, LOL............Kitty

Like yours, my kitchen is full of essence of the past. Days when my children were young,teenagers, babies, highchairs,14 around the table, breakfast, lunch, dinner, homework, making cookies, making bread, creating art projects, family councils. My kitchen is full of wonderful memories, aren't we blessed!
