• 2008-Dec-4 - sore.......

Posted By Dana in daily life

Ok, I managed to get out of bed. It's my upper body that's sore so I must've taken more of hte fall there than I thought. However I managed to mop and work out, which loosen things up. I had to help both boys w/math today, too!LOL I also paid *my* bills and got stamps ordered. Man, I love the post office sometimes....LOL Last week they sent out stamp order forms so I got my Christmas stamps ordered today and should get them tomorrow! All that's left on my list is to shower and compose the Christmas letter!;)

Ok, didn't get the letter done today. That's ok, as Clarice would say, "there's always tomorrow". But then it's not really a dream for me!LOL I'll get it done on MOnday.

• 2008-Dec-3 - it finally happened.........

Posted By Dana in daily life
GREAT DAY! I worked out, emptied the dishwasher, got the boys ready adn we left. Unfortunately the mom who was to bring snack for MOMS did not show! That meant no bfast for me! We go straight from MOMS to skating so by 12:30 (it's over at 1), I was ready to gnaw my left arm off and could tell my blood sugar was being affected. So I looked down to see if my skate was untied and BAM! Down I went. Hard. My elbow hurts a bit, but I lived!LOL I wonder how badly my knees will hurt tomorrow cuz my elbows took the brunt, but my knees were next. And it knocked the wind out of me!LOL It's my first spill in the 2 years we've been doing this, so not much damage to my pride!ROTFL! From there I picked up the boy Pizza Hut (BookIts) and I went to McDs to get something to eat. Then to library. I sat. That was nice!LOL But the mom who reads to the older ones left cuz one of he dds was throwing up. So I read to them. Then to the grocery. Aldi has BRIE (which I LOVE!) and goat's cheese! 3 kinds and I got the cranberry cinnamon--YUMMY! I also got some belgian butter truffles. OMW! TDF!!!!!!! I got everything done at home and the chili is on. I may eat truffles for dinner instead......LOL

• 2008-Dec-2 - quiet.........

Posted By Dana in daily life

Yes, today was quiet. I didn't feel good so that worked out well.;) I did manage to workout and dust. I even got a shower!LOL But about lunchtime, I started going downhill. NOt sure what it was, but I"m sick of these GI issues. I was pretty sure that vomiting was inevitable,b ut I didn't. Mat made me a grilled cheese and I drank a few ounces of Coke. I felt a bit better (I read a book) and figured that I should sort, wash, peel and dice the potatoes while I had the energy. I tossed in 2 carrots for good measure. I found the last package of green onion cheese and knew that there was a package of cooked bacon in the freezer. So if I could just deal w/the potatoes, I'd be good.  It was VERY good soup! DH was completely unenthused about the lack of meat, but he didn't say a word. He knows there is probably a very good reason why we're eating potatoes constantly!LOL

I also managed to print off December's calendar--which gives me a sense of knowing. And I entered Mat's school thru 1/7/09. That's a good feeling.

And now it's time for The Biggest Loser.;)

• 2008-Dec-1 - Back to the grindstone..........

Posted By Dana in daily life

Yup, it's Monday adn we are HOME! I'm glad. I missed my bed. Alot. A really really lot!ROTFL!

I managed to wash both boys sheets, my new brown cords (THAT I LOVE!) and the darks before we had to get to town to meet an online friend! I hadn't met her before and what fun! She's such a nice person anyway. ;) I bought something for a friend for Christmas while at Cracker Barrel (where we simply met!;)) and out we went. I don't usually bribe my children, but we were all tired from the long weekend so I told them that I"d get them hot chocolate (Joey) nad pumpkin cappucino (Mat) if they BEHAVED! They were really good!LOL Then to Lowe's to check out a tip on some scrapbooking stuff and then to get some bread and gas. Joey managed to jostle his cup enuf to spill it down the front of his coat, shirt and jeans. I got teh cup cleaned up and realized that I did not see my Cracker Barrel purchase. I decided that I left it there and sent Mat in after it. Thankfully he came out w/it!LOL It's always humbling to do something stupid like leave your purchase at the counter and wonder out of the store!LOL

Then back home to finish up laundry and decide that fried potatoes would go well w/bacon and eggs. And a few rounds of Word Twist on Facebook tossed in there..........LOL

• 2008-Nov-28 - Daddy and His Wine!

Posted By The Farmer's Daughter
As all of you know, my dad suffered a horrible heart attack in August and from here on out, we are on "borrowed time".    Years ago when Keith had his heart attack he was told to drink a glass of wine a day and sure enough Daddy was told the same thing.   Now I'll be honest and admit that Mom and I aren't so sure "a glass of wine" is all that good for the heart or it's just an excuse to have one but since the doctors did tell them to drink it were not going to argue.
When Daddy first came home from the hospital, he didn't say anything about getting any wine but I guess some his old cronies from the coffee shop have been talking about how much better they feel and they think it's because of the wine.      Now suddenly he thinks he needs some and when Mom told me she over-heard him telling one of his friends, "I'm sure one of the girls will get me some wine!" I decided I would be "the one".     So, on Monday when Keith and I went to Topeka we decided to make a trip to the liquor store....I might add Keith didn't argue because he decided he needed some too! HA    Keith has a palate for wine so knows just what to buy but the only wine my dad has ever drank was forty years ago and that was Mogan David.   To be honest, we didn't even know if they still made the stuff.    However, Keith found they do and since we didn't know when we might be making another liquor store run (Remember girls, we're not one to imbibe in Spirits!) we decided to buy him a GALLON to make sure he didn't run out anytime soon.
Tuesday when we went to pick up pecans, we took the wine with us.   Mom just gasped when she saw how much we bought and she then made some remark about how now he thought he needed a wine glass to drink it from.   Of course when I saw one at the Thrift Store, I couldn't resist buying it for him as a joke.    Keith had ran into Bob and Daddy at the Sale Barn and he told Daddy he had brought his wine over and of course they gave him a bad time about what kind of son-law he was if hadn't brought it to them at the sale!
We all arrived back at the house about the same time and the first words out of Daddy's mouth were, "Where's my wine?"   Keith went out to the garage and got it and of course Bob said, "Ok, bring out the glasses!"   So, I washed up the wine glass and Mom got out a "Pimiento jar" (Remember girls, we're poor ole farmers so we save everything...This was one of those little glasses Pimiento spread comes in!) and we proceed to pour the wine.   Naturally Bob and Daddy went on about how we hadn't bought enough wine for a good glass full and then Daddy asked how much it cost.   When Keith told him he said, "For that price I can take a bottle of that Welsh's Grape Juice and pour some straight alcohol in it".    I told him we might be poor but we aren't that poor and I would make sure he always had wine!    Daddy hasn't had any Mogan David wine in forty years but he said it tasted just like it used to  (Like they had suddenly changed their way of making it!) and Bob said if we had brought more he could have had a real taste! HA
For over an hour we sat there while those two old men drank their glass of wine and we laughed at all they were saying.    On the way home the tears just rolled down Keith's cheeks and he said, "Do you know what precious memories your making with your folks?"    I told him I felt that way every time I went over.     And of course now I'm sure we've started a new "tradition" for Daddy....I'm sure he will be having his daily glass of wine with any old friend that stops by so Keith is going after more wine and I'm taking him real wine glasses!!!!!   It doesn't get any better than this!   Hugs, Sher

• 2008-Nov-28 - It's Time to Relax!

Posted By The Farmer's Daughter
At last I am finding the time to draw a long breath and let it out.    I'm sure most of you can relate to how I'm feeling.   While I love having all my family home I'm going to be honest and admit I'm glad to see them go home too.    I guess I'm just getting older and need some peace and quiet....As though we ever have any of that in this household!!!!
I think one reason I'm so tired this year is because we had such a busy week before Thanksgiving dinner.   It started off Monday when Keith and I took off for Topeka to pick up a few new outfits for the kids Christmas program at school and to do a little Christmas shopping.    I guess it was because of the economy but we found lots of good buys and very little shoppers.   No standing in long lines which was heavenly!!!   Of course that didn't mean we had a stress free day.   Once again, our age is against us and climbing in and out of that van was more than our old bones could take.    And then once we got home we had it all to lug in and put away.   Not an easy feat when you consider we had Christmas gifts on top of the $300 worth of groceries from Sam's Club!
Tuesday I started in on Drew's room as soon as the little ones got on the bus.   I had just got everything tore out (Including putting about a million and one VHS tapes in the middle of the kitchen table to be rewound!) when mom called and told me to get over there....She had more pecans for me to pick up! HA   This really wasn't that much of a surprise because she had told me Sunday there was a chance she might have found more but it sure wasn't much notice.    Keith was yelling he wanted to go along and if I would let him he'd take us both out to lunch.   Needless to say, that got him "invited"! HA   So, off to Mom's to get her and then on to Garnett.    Once we got to the place where we were picking up, Keith dumped us and then he headed for the Sale Barn.  For over an hour we crawled around on "all fours" picking up nuts as fast as we could.    We had just finished up when Keith came back (He had a bought a load of firewood which made me happy!)  and from there we went to our favorite place to eat, "Denise's Cafe".   As usual, the food was heavenly.     From eating we went to our favorite Thrift Store and I ended up with tons of Paula Dean magazines for fifty cents each.
Once we got home we met up with Daddy and his friend Bob but that's a story for another post.    We spent about an hour there and came home to start working on the mess I left and then fixed my crew supper.
I guess crawling around on "all fours" Tuesday was more than this old body of mine could take.   I spent all night Tuesday & Wednesday moaning and by Thursday, I don't think there was a spot on me that didn't hurt!    Yesterday started out at 6:00 a.m. with getting the turkey in the oven and it was after 5:00 before I ever got to sit down.  {Is it any wonder I was feeling so bad???}    There we several thing we were wanting at the "Black Friday Sales" but thanks to our Seth they were bought and we didn't have to stand in the long lines and cold.
This afternoon is "relaxing time" and I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying it.   I'll be doing BBQ wings and Chili Fries for supper and other than that the day is my own.   So, on that note I'll sign off.   I pray all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and counted your Blessings.    You know when we gave thanks you were all included, as well as being thankful we had another holiday with my parents.   Hugs & Love, Sher

• 2008-Nov-25 - parental joys........

Posted By Dana in daily life

Last night was ugly. Turns out that Mat was overtired, but that was not seen until later. The rule is that I am allowed to spot check math timed tests at any time and if htey are not 100% complete, no youth for that not. Mat had been doing a good job so I wasn't spot checking. My mistake. But we are trying to let Mat have some 'control' and responsibilities. So I realized my mistake when it dawned on me that I was asking if his timed TEST was done. I could've shown you each day he had math on a Monday. ARGH! Another 25+ tests WERE NOT DONE! So no youth. The amt of caterwalling I heard was beyond unreasonable. Which garnered him loosing youth for all of Dec (which in retrospect is 2 meetings!LOL). Meanwhile, he was very, very angry. He wrote on his shirt in green pen. Which this morning he learned lost him all of December's allowance to make up for the shirt. I went in at 10 last night tho (he's normally up WAY past 10!) and he was GONE! DEAD TO THE WORLD! Needless to say, today has gone MUCH better and he's almost caught up on timed tests and the world can go on.........LOL

But today I haven't done much. CLeaned up, put away the dry laundry, etc. Realized that Mat's 'fun' last night cost me a trip to the grocery. So that's what we are doing today. I also dont' know when the last time his amphians were fed so we're going to the 'big' town and getting crickets and my reward for yesterday will be a Starbucks (have no fear, I have gift cards!LOL).

I also made the cheeseballs today so we'll drop that off at horseman's.

• 2008-Nov-24 - Thanksgiving Sucess!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By Dana in daily life

We had a GREAT Thanksgiving!

Let me backpedal a bit. Friday I took Mat back home for a lockin and we got haircuts and I went to see my (mom's) coat at the cleaners. After they finally FOUND the right ticket, I saw the coat. He's going to work some more on it and hopefully it will look a little bit better. The hair cuts went well. Except that I managed to put my hands in the wax strips from my brows while inspecting Mat's cut and that was a mess!ROTFL! The place is kept under lock and key, but that's another issue. It was very quiet and professional and I did appreciate that aspect.  Then to drop off all the pies for the Thanksgiving meal at the church and Mat's stuff and find the accessories for mom's sewing maching (PHEW!) and this combine that she'd been hunting for. By then it was supper time so we stayed for pizza and heade out. I had stuff to get done at home for the Thanksgiving on Saturday still!

Dh was a HUGE help! He didnt' even go into work on Saturday! I nearly keeled over! He rigged some mess that would be a huge fire hazard under the table for the crock pots!LOL He also did a great job ont th bird AND he peeled all 10 lbs of potatoes!!!! Meanwhile, I had worked out, showered, made the california medley, sweet potato casserole, dressing (the RIGHT way!LOL) and we got the little things done. Then I did the mashed potatoes. I was done by 11! Which meant that I had plenty of time to visit, and that was nice. We all had a very nice day and a nice time chatting and catching up.

Dh wanted to go do a house w/my BIL (he does lead testing) so they left to do that while some of us played Euchre. ;) When they got back, we ate supper and cleaned up. We got done at 8. I was DEAD!

Yesterday was the church celebration so things were all out of whack. But I'm officially done teaching Sunday School.;) We got our class organized for the next lessons and worked on the church calendar that we do as a fund raiser. Then to the satelite site for the service and lunch. We got home and I made the turkey salad (some of mom's eggs were vertical while boiling which means they do not make very good deviled eggs so we used those for turkey salad) and was going to do something else when DH told Joey to get off the computer or he'd be late for Christmas program practice. It was my night to help at kid's club, but I had TOTALLY FORGOTTEN PRACTICE!!!!!!!! So I got dressed and we buzzed out the door. I did get to the grocery for the carrots and onions for the stock during practice!LOL So it was another long, but fun day.

Today is more of the same. I'm ready to toss the 5th load of laundry in, have the turkey stock boiling, the pumpkin is cooling so I can puree that, and Joey's done w/school. I've gotten all my calendar ads renewed and ready to put in the mail and updated and balanced the checkbook. I also got my kombucha tea made. I only wish I could take a nap!!!!!!!! I just ate bfast a bit ago and it's almost lunch time!

Oh, I forgot the 'fun' stuff. Mat LOVED the lockin. He's not done anything like that before and the object was to be up all night. They were making breads and rolls for their fundraiser and they watched a movie, had a worship/communion, etc. Mat got sick--IN THE SANTUARY! I'm still not sure why THERE, but he got overheated. Another girl did as well. My dad picked Mat up at 8am and Mat was DEAD. So what does my dad do? Go to the local coffee hangout and drank coffee w/his buddies for an hour while MAT SLEPT IN THE BOOTH!!!!!!!ROTFL! Oh well..........

• 2008-Nov-21 - Almost ready for Thanksgiving!

Posted By Dana in daily life

God must know I'm going to be eating like a pig cuz my workouts have been 'boot camp' style!LOL BUt that's good. Laundry is done and SHOULD be dry by tomorrow. The onions and celery are ready to saute for the dressing. The sweet potatoes are ready to boil as well. We'll get the leaf in the table and move furniture as soon as Mat is done w/school. I found all the paper goods (I bought Thanksgiving stuff in bulk one yearL!OL) and have plenty and will drag the crock pots out in a bit. I need to find out how many the rest of hte family is bringing so I know what can go where.

That leaves mainly peeling 10lbs of potatoes for tomorrow. DH does the bird so that's off my hook. The rest of the stuff is mainly dump, mix heat and toss into crock pots to stay warm until ppl arrive.;)
