A Wonderful AnniversaryIt was 24 years ago, on this date, that I went to a doctor in Phoenix, Arizona, to help me quit smoking. I think the fact that it cost $200.00, that was lots of money to us, made a big contribution to the fact that I did, finally, quit.I had some rough times getting used to not having my smokes. I did gained some weight and I didn't know how to go about losing it, but I have since learned and am back to my pre-smoking weight. The good things that have come about by not smoking are worth noting: ![]() I have three very healthy and happy grown up children, they have never smoked and I pray never will. They were never exposed to secondary smoke, nor were they exposed to smoking while I was pregnant. I am a healthy 50 years old, and I don't smell like an old smoked up cigerette. My house, car, and clothes don't smell either. I have not suffered any smoking related illnesses since quitting. I have learnt a great deal about self discipline from quitting smoking, I think that might be one of the most important lessons of all. Thank you for stopping by. Getting Ready for the New Year!It is that wonderful time of year to get calendars and organizers ready for the New Year. I print out my calendars at home, it is so much less expensive to print a black and white calendar, just pennies, compared to buying a picture calendar in the store. You might also be able to pick up free calendars at stores in your area. The Co-Op, where we buy our feed, didn't have any out this year, possibly the economy has caused them to have to stop this practice.I have a couple of sites that I use for my calendars, here are links to some of them: Printable Calendar Time and Date I hope that you can use these links, and support the sites, if possible. It is always nice of people to help us along on our journey, with their time and talents, we should return the favor, if we can. One practice that I have, when doing my calendar, is to transfer all the birthday's, anniversaries, and other special occasions over to the new calendar as soon as it is printed. This may seem like a tedious task, but once it is done you will have the dates recorded and won't have to worry about missing Great Aunt Betty's birthday! You can decorate your calendar, if you choose, with stickers, your own art work, rubber stamping, or printing out on color paper. The possiblities are only limited by your imagination and desires. Thanks for stopping by. Back on TrackIt is time for me to get back on track with my weight.Last year, on December 8, I reached my goal weight of 133. I was, quite honestly, thrilled. Since then I have maintained my weight loss but for 5 pounds. My weight is at 138 and I don't want to lose control and add back the 30 plus pounds that I lost. Today, I rededicate my efforts to loosing the 5 pounds that I have gained. We are almost past all the birthdays and celebrations that require a large meal or treat, just one birthday left on the 20th of December and then I will not have the job of making and eating lovely, sweet snacks for the family. I am using Spark People to help me track my food, water, exercise and weight loss. The site was a wonderful help last year and I expect to get the same results this year. I think it should take between 4 - 8 weeks to get the weight back off. I am excited about getting back to my routine of healthy living. Two Weeks Late - Happy Birthday JenniferI have been trying to get this sweater finished for my youngest daughters birthday, which was on the 14th of November. Finally, today, this very morning, I was able to give it to her. ![]() Belated Happy Birthday Jennifer!!
Tea CozyToday I made a Tea Cozy. It is a birthday present for my lovely friend, Cindy. I also made her a set of four napkins from the color coordinating fabric I used to line the cozy.![]() I have enough extra fabric to make a couple of more tea cozies and a pair of napkins for each. I will be posting them for sale on my site, or if you are interested leave me a note in the contact and I will get back with you.
Thank you for stopping by. New RoostersYesterday, while taking our morning walk, a neighbor hailed us and asked if we would like a rooster or two. We were thrilled at the offer, we have been wanting to get a couple of roosters and here were two grown, beautiful roosters just waiting for us to take them home. We, of course, said "Yes" and that we would return today to pick them up. We needed to prepare a place for them to pass thier first day with us. We set up a temporary home for them next to the hen's run. This morning, bright and early, we set off to the neighbors, with a couple of big boxes, and picked these two roosters for our own: ![]() They have been named, the Buff Orpington has been named Andre, the Rhode Island Red is called Inigo Montoya, from the book The Princess Bride, a favorite book and movie, here at our home. The roosters have been spending today getting acquaited with the hens and getting used to us. We will put them in the hen's run tonight and hopefully tomorrow all will be on good terms. We are hopeful that these roosters will help increase our flock and give us a few more laying hens. God is so good to provide for our needs. Home AgainRobert and I made a whirlwind trip to Phoenix at the end of October. We rented a van on the 24th, took the kids to town for some fun on the 25th, and on 26th we headed for Phoenix. It takes us about 10 hours to drive, I am always glad to rent a vehicle because we, usually, get satelite radio. Since I am always the passenger, I hardly ever get to drive, I need to be entertained. While in Phoenix, Robert worked and I got to catch up with a dear friend. She and I went for tea and then spent hours wandering around an antique mall that was close to my hotel. Oh, I had such a great time catching up with Cindy. She has been a good friend to me and my family for so many years. She gave me a gift too, this lovely tea cup: We got home from Phoenix on the 28th and on the 29th we did a major grocery shopping trip, that wore all of us out. On the 30th we went for a girls shopping trip and turned the rental van in. We are set for a couple of months before we have to venture out again.
I am so thankful for the work that we had, that we are home safe and that I had such a lovely visit with my dear friend. Now I have to get back to sewing and other craft projects and getting the house ready for the cold weather. I am a Slacker

It seems forever since I was here to write. Lots of things have been going on and keeping me away from my Blog.I celebrated my 50th Birthday on 24 September! Seems incredible but it is true. My oldest had his 21st birthday on the 26th. It was a great party around here for a few days, and we all had a marvelous time. My brother and sister-in-law called to chat for a bit. A dear friend, Miss Robin and her little girlies called to wish me a Happy Day, it was fun to hear from them. My Aunt called me a few days ago, I always looked up to her when I was a little girl, still do as a matter of fact. We have also been walking a mile every day, the weather is perfect for being out and getting some exercise. Then there is the all the exercise we are getting by putting the garden to bed. The corn stalks are all pulled out and they are being chopped up to feed to the wood stove. Pumpkins are gathered in and waiting to be made into pies and other goodies. I am working on a couple of projects too. The coal bucket is being painted and I am working on doing a little decorative painting on it, waiting to get my nerve up to work in oil paints again. Also, I am getting ready to paint the master bathroom. This has been a year long project, I haven't been making any great strides but the family is getting a little pushy about me getting it finished now that the weather is cooler. Last but not least is sewing. Nightgowns are in process for the girls, one is finished and another is waiting to be cut out and sewn up. Jennifer has put in an order for clothes for her birthday, so I will be working on that over the next month too. So these are the little things that are keeping me busy these days, but it is a nice busy and that is good. First Day of Autumn![]() Nature XXVII, Autumn by Emily Dickinson The morns are meeker than they were, The nuts are getting brown; The berry's cheek is plumper, The rose is out of town. The maple wears a gayer scarf, The field a scarlet gown. Lest I should be old-fashioned, I'll put a trinket on. ![]() { Last Page } { Page 2 of 6 } { Next Page } |
