• Thursday, August 16, 2007 - Tap Dancing Goats!

Yes, tap dancing goats!

When you are training a young goat to milk for the first time they tend to be a little on the nervous and jittery side.  It's always an experience training them.  Sometimes you have to use hobbles, which in my opinion are worth their weight in gold!  They are an easy way to make the goat stand still.  I don't like to have to keep using them, so I always try milking first without them.  Sometimes the goat finishes her grain before you're done milking her and then the tap dancing begins, or the kicking begins, or in the case of one goat, she simply squats lower and lower until her whole bag is resting on the bucket.  Never a dull moment, but I do have to say that after just 2 days of milking, I haven't needed the hobbles.  I am quite happy with that.

I have the Corgi ready.  I just need to take pictures!

Hi LaVonne!
Thanks for visiting and for your kind words. Anyway, you asked about the pigs...
When I was growing up, we raised hogs primarily (and some cattle). They are very easy to take care of. In my adult life, we've raised them for 4H and to butcher. Sounds like you're ready to try your hand at raising one. I think you'll find it rewarding. Don't worry, we're all "clueless" at one time or another. I'll look and see what kind of info I can find for you. :o)
