I see I haven't written anything in over 10 days. I have a very good reason. I've barely had time to ready my email, let alone keep up with the blogging.
I started lambing on the 9th. I had 17 lambs in the space of about 4 days. I am up to 22 now and I have 7 ewes left.
It started raining early this morning and rained hard, off and on, all day. It's supposed to be like this for the next week. We can sure use the moisture, but it makes for more work. At least it seems like more work. Maybe it just makes the work seem like work when it's raining!
I got up at about 1:30 am to check for lambs and there were 2 on the ground in the barn. I put them in a jug with their mother. A jug is just a small enclosed space for them to bond. Mine are made out of hog panels that have been cut down to size. They are held together with snap hooks. These little lambs are so tiny. I weighed them this morning and they are just over 3 lbs. I buy hamburger in bigger packages than that! Then this afternoon I had another set of twins from my original old ewe. She's 12 this year and is such a good mom. He lambs weighed in at 7 lbs. 5 oz. for the boy and just under 6 lbs. for the girl! These two look half grown compared to the little tiny ones from this morning. As a matter of fact, I was comparing them to others born last week and they are even bigger than some of them!
I will get around to uploading some pictures one of these days. I did a REALLY stupid thing and let my Norton Anti Virus expire. Just a word of advice, don't ever do that! I had the '03 version and they offered a free upgrade to the '07 version and I have had nothing but problems trying to download it. Third time's a charm............I hope! All of my "spare" computer time has been devoted to downloading that. I hope I can get it going soon, then I will have more time for the fun stuff, like loading pictures of baby lambs!
