We are having some beautiful weather here today! It is currently 51 degrees. There is a slight wind, but the sun is shining and it's beautiful. I went out and did some pruning on the apple trees today. I only have one in the yard and the rest are in the garden. My big apple tree that I have been babying along for YEARS is the one in the yard. My sheep and goats got out twice and nibbled the bark off in several places. I am just sick about it, but hopeful that it will survive. They didn't "girdle"it, as they say, or eat it around the entire tree. I am being cautious about the pruning so that the stress of it all doesn't kill it. I had my best crop of apples off of it this past fall. Wouldn't you know!?
This weather is making me want to dig in and get some yard/garden work done, but it's way too early here in Montana. We just had below zero temps this past week and we could get the same again any day! It's really a wonder that anything will grow here with the mood swings our weather has.
We could sure use more moisture. When I walk out in the fields and pastures, there are cracks in the earth. I've never seen it do that before and it's a little scary. I sure hope we get some nice spring rains. We've had no snow to speak of.
I am still battling that cold and trying everything under the sun to lessen the serverity of it. I don't know if that's possible. Sometimes when I think I am actually hedging off a cold, it comes back with a vengance and I should've just let it happen in the first place. I've been doing a lot of reading and sleeping this last week, so I guess it's not all bad. Can't seem to stay awake.
