Here's Houdini the drop-off kitten. Someone(s) dumped him here at our house, undoubtedly assuming I would take care of him. Hmmm...........makes me wonder who! The last time that happened, I knew who did it since we'd been at her house earlier and I recognized the kittens. I promptly gave her and her husband a tonugue lashing for doing such a cruel thing. That's what shelters are for. This time I am not sure who it was, but I have my suspicions.
It took me about 2 weeks to catch him. He kept disappearing and I'd think he took off for another home and then he'd reappear again after a couple of days. He does a great disappearing act, hence the name Houdini.
I had planned on him being a barn cat, since I finally have a barn after 10 years of raising sheep. When I brought him into the house, I asked my husband to help me get the crate ready. He asked where I'd be keeping him. I told him the barn. He promptly said, "You can't let that little thing sleep out in the cold!" Well, I responded with, "OK, but this is YOUR idea!" We already have 3 cats that come in and out and 4 dogs!
I kept him in his crate for about a week. He had all he need in the large crate and I wanted the other animals to get used to him, especially since we have an Airedale and they are notorious for not liking cats. His name is Kirby and he'd sleep nose to nose with the cat's crate!
I took him in and had him neutered at the spay and neuter clinic. They do it for free. I gave a donation. He's got the run of the house and when I open the door, he just stands there and sniffs the air. He has no desire to go back out into that cold cruel world!
He's has been a joy to have around. We haven't had a kitten for a lot of years. I've been wanting one and my husband says no, we have enough animals. I'd agree and that would be that. With our old cat, Oscar, getting up in years, it will be nice to have Houdini around once Oscar passes to the Rainbow Bridge.
This little stinker is generally in my lap asleep whenever I am on the computer. I guess all things work out and it was meant to be.
