I can't actually remember what I wrote about the yahoo group I started a couple of weeks ago, so I'll back-track a bit.
One of the most frustrating things for me as a Shepherdess is connecting with those who love fiber. I raise Shetland and Shetland/Romney cross sheep. They are known for their beautiful fiber. The breed is a small breed, which means there's not a lot of meat on one. I seem to have no problem selling small breed lambs for the freezer, however. The problem has been marketing their lovely fiber. If you know anyone who loves fiber, they're a fiber addict. You can't have too much fiber. Lots of it and all different kinds. Fiber people will understand!
I made a list of goals (still no book to put them all in) for 2009 and one of those goals is to connect with locals who love fiber. Local turned into the entire state of Montana, but that's ok. It's a large state as miles go, but small when you think in terms of population and then narrow that down even further to fiber population. I am happy to report there are 22 on the list already! Very exciting and what a diverse and talented lot! That is very exciting to me!
Another goal is to expand my fiber related skills. I've signed up for a drop spindle class next month with a friend and I've ordered some knitting patterns. One has a graph, which I have never done, so it will be a bit of a challenge. That's good!
I sit here surrounded by fiber. I need to do something with it! |
