Square Biscuits

Posted in Recipes

We love sausage and gravy biscuits, but my least favorite activity is shaping every little biscuit. Here is a biscuit trick I picked up after watching a local restaurant make their biscuits.

BISCUIT TIP/TRICK: After mixing your dough, pour the dough into a brownie pan spread with a spatula and pop into the oven for the same cooking time as regular biscuits without the fuss.

This really does work, they rise nice and you can even butter the top for a dark and crispy top. (I don't usually do this-I don't need an extra step)

Here is our Biscuit Recipe:

4 Cups Flour
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
5 Tbsp. butter or shortening or lard (I use butter)
1 Cup buttermilk (I pour until it looks wet)

Mix dry ingredients, then blend in butter. Add buttermilk. For each biscuit pinch off enough to shape into a biscuit patting with your hands. Bake 420 for 15-20 minutes. Or after adding buttermilk pour biscuit dough into a brownie pan and bake.

Enjoy!

Wow, I never would've thought of that. Thanks for your recipe too. Sounds like it might be easy enough for me, a challenged baker!

Ok, I have a stupid question...I make brownies in a 9x13 pan, but I'm assuming the 'brownie pan' here would be more like an 8x8 or 9x9 square?

I think we'll try the recipe in the morning!
