My life on the farm

Pickles had a Baby!

{ 1:28, March 3, 2009 } { Link }
Sunday the 1st of March, Pickles had a ram and an ewe early in the morning. Since it was in the early morning, no one was outside with her. The ewe lamb got behind the watering tank and she died because she could not get out from behind the tank. The boy is doing good, though. He is staying with mom nice. Pickles is being a good mom. I'm so proud of her, because she is a first time mom.

This is him, the morning he was born. He's not too clean. =P

Getting a picture of my lamb at 60 days.

This is my lamb at 60 days. I went out to get a picture yesterday, and she would not stand still. I finally just caught her and put a harness on her so she could not run away. Megan was taking the pictures and I was holding the lamb. Then I took the camera from Megan because the lamb was facing me. Then I lost the rope and she ran away with the other sheep. Megan and I had to catch her, but we did not want to chase the sheep because some of them were ready to lamb. (and we are chasing them outside) We finally got her cornered. Megan grabbed her and the lamb was kicking, Megan and I were laughing so hard I grabbed her because Megan was about to loose her, then I lost her because I was laughing so hard. Now we were back where we started she was back with the other sheep and she still had the harness on. After chasing her for another 5 minutes I grabbed her and got the harness off and let her go!

But I did get a good picture of her!  =]

Cow

Okay.. So.. My dad had a sale where some people wanted to trade a cow for some sheep. They said all we would have to do is keep it for two months and then we could butcher her. On Monday the guy came to give us the cow and get his sheep. Then as soon as he got the cow off the trailer the horses scared the cow and she jumped in to the field next to us and runs away. The guy got his sheep and told us to put some hay out and the cow might come back, He said she was looking for more cows. (and there are no cows around us!) Then he left.

Now we had a run away cow that is not tame with no harness and no way to catch her! My dad and his friend tried to get her home till dark on four wheelers, but they could not get her. She stayed out in the field all night at least a mile away. That was very long day!

The next morning Dad went out with his friend again, and they found her!! With alot of work, they drove behind her to get her home! With some gates they got her to go to the barn. We were so happy to know we had her in the barn!

Once she was in the barn Dad was working on some other stuff outside, then he came in the house and told us that she had jumped right out the door of the barn! And she was on the other side of the yard eating some hay. We were going to try and walk her back to the barn, but our dog Shasta was trying to help but she did not know what we were doing. She chased the cow right back over the fence out into our neighbor's field again!!

Then Dad went and got a four wheeler to get her, and mom went with the van to help. Dad told her there was no way she could help so Mom went to the post office. My sister and I stayed home.  A little bit later Mom's phone was ringing and it was Dad but Mom was still at the post office! I answered the phoneand he said that the cow was on the road, now, and to come and drive behind her!  Mom was not back and I did not tell him because I did not want to stess him out more. So now, I was freaking out trying to know what to do, because I do not have my drivers license. I went to get my grandpa who was over cutting wood for us. I'm so glad he was there. We went to go drive behind the cow. And this whole time I was praying that the cow would go home and just stay!! The cow went home and in the barn I was so happy! Dad made the fences in the barn higher. She has been in the barn the last 5 days! And dad is taking her to the sale barn on Monday.

Yesterday Freckles had a baby lamb! It is a girl and I'm so happy! She has Big ears that look so cute on her! She looks alot like mommy. But she has a brown tail and more brown spots on her legs and tipped ears. I have not thought of a name yet, so if you have any ideas tell me. I'm trying to think of one that kinda goes with Thanksgiving!

                                    Here she is!

And Freckles and her baby! You can see how they look alike.

Kittens

Oct. 9th  I was out in the chicken barn and I heard a little [meow-meow]. I turned around and there was a little yellow kitten. I toke him inside to show my mom. His eyes were coverd with eye boogers it was so cute but look so sad. My mom said he looked like he was 4 weeks old. So I had to clean his eyes with a warm rag [ I still have to clean his eye but it is not as bad as it used to be]. And his left eye has something wrong with it. Dad called the vet and he said to give him penicllin. And he was not eating hard food so mom sad she would buy some milk for him. We had lots of names for him but we finely picked Rosco.

This is him the first day I found him after I cleaned his eyes.

Then I went some where for the weekend and when I got back. Mom had got a bottle and kitten milk for him. He did not suck on it he bit it to get the milk out. He drank the bottle for like 2 weeks. I had to clean out his ears cause they were very dirty!

In this picture you can see his left eye alittle better. [This is about  2 or 3 week after I found him]

And on Oct. 25th we got 2 kitten [ That were like 6 weeks old] from my dads friend so Rosco would no be lonely [ I think dad just wanted to help his friend get rid of some of his kittens cause he had 14!]  My mom named the gray one Abigail. [cause my dad got her for mom] And my baby sister named the black one Vanilla.

Them the day dad brought them home.

And this is all our babys today! Rosco was to lazy to sit up in the picture but he is the biggest one. [They are squintting cause of the flash]

Abigail is shy but she has warmed up to us. She will sit on your lap if you make her. lol

Vanilla is the fluffy one I think she is a sweetie.

Rosco is my favorite he is so so sweet and cuddly. =D His eye does not bug me at all cause he's my little baby boy that I found in the barn. = )

But I just love it when I can get all of them to sleep on my lap!! : )

My Sheep

I thought I would put up some pictures of what my sheep look like now. Freckles is 3 years old and is Freddie's mom, Pickles is 2 years old, and Freddie is a yearling. I was so happy when when Freckles was in the back of the group, so i got her all alone in her picture. Pickles was one of the bottle lambs so I just had to call her and she came up to me, so i got lots of good pictures of her. She got too close in some, LOL, she always wants to be touching you. But  Freddie would not leave the group so you can see lots of sheep behind her. And Freddie still has her winter hair cause she was born just this past year, but she will shed all of it next year.

                                                                                    Freckles

                                                                                     Pickles

                                                                                     Freddie
