A journey to a simpler life

• 2005-Dec-25 - Why a reluctant Homesteader?

Well the thing is this....I feel overwhelmed with the amount of things on my plate as it is. How is the world could I take on something like homesteading? I don't know. But I do know that I am really drawn to the idea of adapting a homesteader attitude toward life.

So, I guess we will see where this all ends up.

Once life is simplified (and I think that's different for all families) I think you make/find more time for things, that 'other things' (before you simplified) used to take up time for.

I think the word HOMESTEADING envokes thoughts of haulin' water from the crik daily (some folks do, we have a well--mucho easier--and we're ok with that--some folks WANT to haul that water from the crik), building your own shelter from scratch, etc etc......it's all what you want it to be--and what's best for your family.

One example from our family....we used to feel we had to do it all (work, be involved in all activities for family and children, constantly on the run, never HOME TIME!) we cut out everything that wasn't loved or a neccesary time taker (ie, work that pays) :)

We very SELECTIVELY choose what we get involved in, and where our time is spent--and in turn our money as well.
I found that if we were always on the run, I didn't have the time I needed to truly care for my family as we (Marc & I) believed needed to be done--and we wanted to do. We were always playing catch up with the meals, the house, the lessons--it's a never ending cycle, that drove us nutty!

We find our quieter lifestyle has given us time for each other, the homestead God has given us to care for, projects and hobbies. :)
We made changes, and don't miss a thing--!

We love our simple, quiet, healthier lifestyle. We take great enjoyment out of being together and working at home together.

Hope my rambling helps.........al;ksjdf;alk
