Bible Passage - 1 Corinthians 1
This is the Bible Passage I read today. I hope you enjoy it. I will be reading through the 1 & 2 Corinthians. :) I hope you get a good read out of this.
1 Corinthians 1
1Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
2Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:
3Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
4I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
5That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
6Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
7So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
8Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
16And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
Rachel

The Simple Woman's Daybook -14
Here is my Simple Woman's Daybook entry for today -
For... Monday, July 21st
Outside My Window... I can see the bean fields green, the evergreen tree, and the Queen Ann's Lace flowers dotting the field in front of the bean field.
I am thinking... That I should get going on my GGM articles, and should clean the rabbit cage, finish up a letter to my Grandmother, and send a couple of articles to my Grt. Grandmother.
I am thankful... for the spring rain that came today.
From the kitchen... the roast in the oven... mmm, going to make some beef and veggie stew tonight.
I am wearing... a white t-shirt with a Riverside Youth Club sign on it in pink, my blue stretchy skirt and bare feet, oh and my hair is in a pony tail.
I am creating... A clean house.
I am going... write in my journal today.
I am reading... "Rosa of Linden Castle" by Christoph von Schmid, soon to be reading "Enoch Roden's Training" by Hesba Stretton.
I am hoping... get some flower seeds and plant them in the next week.
I am hearing... the rattle of baby toys and Amanda talking to Mom in the living room.
Around the house... The babies are playing, the click of the keyboard is heard, and it is the usual day in the Dixon house.
One of my favorite things... is to look at the flowers outside and wonder how they are made.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Weed Mom's flower beds, clean out the garage, mow, plant some more garden plants, get the pantry back in order, finish reading the Lamplighter books, clean for Mr. Schenck's, finish up the package for my SSA.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
Our first horses - Dulcy and Estrella, that aren't here anymore. This is a picture from last summer, when they were out in the pasture eating the grass and apples we fed them. \

My Recipe Box - Banana Bread
Here's the recipe I use to make some good old homemade banana bread. It's great to use those old bananas that are sitting there not getting eaten. I won't eat mushy bananas, but with this recipe, you can savour every taste of them!
Banana Bread
1 cup of sugar
1/3 cup butter
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups of bananas, mashed (3-4 four ripe)
1/3 cup of water
1 2/3 cups of flour (I usually use whole wheat flour to make this kind of stuff)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
Heat the oven to 350*. Grease bottom only of loaf pan, 8 1/2x2 1/2 or 9x5x3 inches. Mix sugar and butter in a 2 quart bowl. Stir in the eggs until well blended. Add bananas and water; beat for about 30 seconds. Stir in remaining ingredients except nuts just until moistened; stir in nuts. Pour into pan. Bake it until you stick a cake tester in it and it comes out clean. Stick it in the middle. 8 inch loaf pan bake for an hour and 15 minutes, 9 inch loaf bake for one hour. Loosen sides of loaf pan; remove from the pan. Cool completely before slicing or it will fall apart. :)
I love making a few loaves and then sticking them in the freezer. Frozen banana bread is great treat here. Everyone loves it.
Baking still,
Rachel

Simple Woman's Daybook
I am not sure if this is only for women to do. But I have seen a few people post about it on Homesteadblogger, and it looks like fun! So here is mine for today. I think you are supposed to do it on Mondays, but since I missed that, I will be doing it on Tuesdays.
For... Tuesday, July 15th
Outside My Window... The morning sunlight is creeping up to the porch, the chickens are strolling in the fields, and I can hear the birds singing their morning chorus.
I am thinking... that I need to get my articles done for Growing In Grace, and clean the house, take a shower, check on the garden.
I am thankful... for my baby sis Luli.
From the kitchen... Nothing yet. I will probably be making something in there soon.
I am wearing... a white t-shirt with a Riverside Youth Club sign on it, a blue skirt and socks.
I am creating... a drawing for my Super Secret Angel.
I am going... to be busy this day.
I am reading... "Rosa of Linden Castle" by Christoph von Schmid
I am hoping... get some flower seeds and plant them.
I am hearing... the birds singing high in the tree tops their morning songs, and I hear the hens near the porch pecking at something.
Around the house... all is quiet and peaceful - except for Eric.
One of my favorite things... is to be outside in the garden when the sun is just coming up and the dew has watered the plants. It's like being in God's Garden.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Weed Mom's flower beds, clean out the garage, mow, plant some more garden plants, get my room in tip-top shape.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
This is the sunset coming home from Hobbs, NM, when we left me Aunt's house.

Just Bein' A Country Girl
Well, for the past few days, I have been letting the does out to eat the apples that are right next to the barnyard. The apple tree is a crab apple, so its an easy thing for them to snatch up a few. Plus, it keeps them busy instead of getting into the hay. It's much more healthy for them since its a green plant. They love to go out and eat the apples that fall from the tree. What they love even more is to have someone get them the big crab apples from higher up in the tree, the ones that are about 2 inches around. They also love to go out in the field and eat all that yummy grass. Hey, the lawn gets mowed and the goats get fed, and we don't have to buy feed and hay as often. We are working on getting a fence out in the big pasture for them to be out there without someone watching them. Hoping to get that done soon.
I have not taken the bucks out yet. I am hoping to do that soon. They need some of the green grass too. They do eat the tree that is in their side of the barnyard. They love that tree! :D
We are still getting lots of eggs from the chickens. I found a giant egg last night, one of the double ones I mean. It has two yokes in it. I haven't found one of those in quite some time. If we let those hatch, and we had a dozen eggs, we would get 13 chicks. But right now, we aren't letting them hatch. I am hoping we can let some of them hatch by the end of the year. We are still giving our eggs to the little store in town. But since they are currently on vacation, we have a bunch of eggs in the fridge. They usually pay around $1.50 a dozen. Then sell them for 10 cents more. Pretty good for both of us. :)
We have been keeping the roosters in their pen due to the fact that they tear the feathers out of the hens' backs. Some of them are bear, so we only let one or two roosters out a week. Mr. Bennet, Jocelyn's rooster, who is a big Rhode Island Red, is out right now. He is one of the nice ones, although he does chase Isaac and Caleb around sometimes, thus Isaac and Caleb are terrified of him. They won't go outside if one of the roosters are out!
We just got some of our potatoes and onions planted a few days ago. Because we went on vacation the first two weeks of June, (the usual time we become active in the garden) we got nothing done in it. We did get some of them planted. We have three tomato plants growing in Mom's flower garden also. They are thriving! I am thinking of leaving them there so I don't have to walk all the way out to the garden when I want a big juicy tomato to make some salsa or some spaghetti sauce with. But right now, I don't know what kinds they are! :D I will have to wait and see.
I have been mowing more lately. I weedwacked a bunch of the back field. For some reason, the goats don't want to be back there and eat the grass. I guess it's because they can't see the barn, their safety. I've mowed a lot of the front lawns. One thing I've learned about mowing - you get blisters if you mow for more than 30 minutes at a time.
I gave Blondie a bath the other day. She did not want to get in that tub of lukewarm water. She has not liked taking a bath since she was a puppy. I gave her three baths last year I think. But she was smaller then, and was not so heavy, so I didn't have problems getting her into the water and holding her there. But she has gotten big. And strong. And I had to put her back in the water three times before she actually realized I was not going to let her out without getting her wet, shampooed and rinsed off. I used the hose water, and since it had been lying in the sun for a while on, the water wasn't too cold for her. She let me pour water over her (after she had soaked my pants), rub her down with shampoo and then rinse her off with a cup. I am hoping to give her another bath in a couple months.
We got two cats. We have been having trouble with HUGE rats in our barn. They are opening the eggs and eating them. At first we thought it might be a cat, but when the lady who was watching our animals for us while we were on vacation said she saw a rat the size of a small cat run right in front of her, she suggested we get cats. We went down to the feed store, because someone told us they had a ton of cats to get rid of. But they only had kittens. Small ones two. Only 6-7 weeks old. So when we went to the dentists', Jocelyn remembered the guy who sells us hay had a ton of cats, some grown and some kittens. We stopped over there and found the cats. We got two females. Brought them home and put them in the feed bin with the three mice Jocelyn had shut the lid on the morning before. The one cat didn't want to do anything; she just sat there, trying to get out. The other one, however, saw the mice, jumped in and killed at three in a matter of seconds. She was a GREAT killer!
We were on our way down to the barn when all the chickens came fluttering up to see what we had. Well, that scared the cats. Mom had the Killer and I had the Watcher. I got pretty scratched up when she fought to get down. Mom got scratched and had to put Killer down. She ran to the fields. I took Watcher to the barn and put her in the hay room, after showing her to Pem, and having her hiss at him. That's exactly what Mom wanted her to do. I left her in the barn, and went up. Now they are just around the property. Mom has put some food and water on the porch for them. Yesterday morning when I got up, Watcher was on the porch. We found both kitties in the field and gave them some food at the edge of the field. This morning, as I was getting feed for the goats, Watcher was in the garage. She scared because I saw her out of the corner of my eye. I ran and got some dog food for her, but then Eric opened the door. I didn't see her again. But they are still around!
We are hoping to get a kitten from the feed store in a couple of weeks. There is a rat in the house now. We want one that we will be able to train to be an inside cat. They had some really cute ones down there. :)
Ok, I hope you enjoyed this post. I have exhausted myself writing it. I will write again soon. I hope to be blogging more on here in the near future. Have a wonderful day!
Rachel

Feelin' Feminine Challenge -My Story
Hello everyone. This entry is for the girls on here. Moms, you can check it out too!
Jocelyn is doing another Feelin’ Feminine Challenge - What’s Your Story? This Challenge is to tell your story about how you came to believe in femininity. Well, I am doing this Challenge. :) Hope you are too.
I have always liked the old-fashioned looks of the dresses the women of the 1800 and the early 1900’s wore. They were so elegant and beautifully made. Somewhere in the years that have gone passed, we have lost that sense of fashion, and now we see girls and women alike dressed immodestly.
I have always wanted to wear dresses like the prairie girls did when they did their chores, or made dinner with their white aprons tied around their waists. I have always thought of women who wore long skirts and wore blouses with long-sleeves and turtlenecks. That is the way I wanted to dress.
When I was little, like 2-7, Momma let us wear shorts and tanktops. But as she read further into what the Bible had to say about how women should dress, the girls in our family could not wear shorts and could not wear tight jeans. We were allowed to wear skirts that came below the knees and sweat pants for chores, and pajama pants for bed. (To tell you the truth, I mostly wear my skirts to do barn chores in, except when one is not clean.) I am so glad I was made to wear skirts!
I have the ideas about the way a women should look because of what my Momma made me do. Of course, being the person I am, who could walk into Wal-Mart with her hair back in a ponytail, and a t-shirts with a skirt, I was all into trying on the pretty skirts made got for me.
As I grew, I started noticing that a lot of the women I saw were in spaghetti strapped shirts that were tight, and very short shorts, or mini-skirts, or tight jeans. I saw how immodestly dressed they were. You can’t even look at the front page of a magazine anymore, without seeing some half-naked person on the front. It doesn’t make me angry that they are dressed that way. I feel sorry for them that they are selling themselves short, as the saying would go. I hate going to the store in the summer because most of the girls are immodestly dressed. We have to guard our little siblings’ eyes because of it.
It is heartbreaking that no one has told these girls the way they are dressing is wrong. But in today’s world, it’s accepted. What has our society come to?
I am not trying to go on about how people should dress, and I am not trying to condemn anyone. I am simply stating my opinions on my view of femininity. So, will you take the challenge on of being a modest girl in an immodest world? A world that would tell you ‘just be yourself, no one else cares.” Actually, a lot of men notice girls and women who dress immodestly. I try to have a loose shirt, and a flowing skirt, with flipflops or tennis shoes.
How will you be judged by people?
Taking on the challenge,
Rachel

The 56th Homesteading Carnival - Just Around
Welcome to the 56th Homesteading Carnival. There are just some random posts in this one. :)
First, let's take a look at Mrs. Tiffany of Natural Family Living Blog tells about Freedom Gardens - Grow Your Own Food. She said that
"I have been reading about WWII Victory/Freedom Gardens lately. Iam not sure when the concept began but our history is rich with stories of people who used times of war and economic depression (like The Great Depression) to get proactive and start growing their own food. During WWII you could find posters encouraging you to start your own garden and avoid the restrictions of food rations and to become more self sufficient during those stressful times."
It's good to know how to grow your own food. You never know when that will be useful. And it's much more healthy too!
Now let's head over to erica.biz. She has some great tips on When Should You Buy Real Estate — And When Is It Better to Rent?
She said that "by the time you’re done reading this, you’ll have an excellent idea of exactly when higher-priced houses will fall in price, and you’ll have an armload of data to assist you in determining when a house is priced correctly — no matter where it is or what its price."
Take a look if you are interested in buying a house or are going to be buying a house.
Let's take a look at someone else's life for a moment. Dora Renee'Wilkerson of Y-2k Hippie tells about when her parents came down from Ohio. Some of the things they did were made berry jam, fresh bread and cream cheese, made shampoo, and homemade vinegar.
Very good pictures, which you can see in her post, 06/19/08. Go check 'em out!

Next we will take a look at Dexter Cattle the Mini Cow with Larry Bogart of Measure Twice, Cut Once. Mr. Bogart asked in his post,
"Why Dexter’s? We have been great fans of the heritage breeds movement for sometime and we knew that we would be picking one of the older breeds, so that narrowed down the search. We first wanted a Kerry cow but we couldn’t find very many of those - a bit too rare. The next runner up was the Dexter, a very old Irish breed."
This is very useful information if you are planning on getting a cow or two. Check it out. :)
Speaking of farm animals, over at My Cup Runneth Over, Mrs. Chas gives a step-by-step, photos-included, called Our First Chicken Day on how to butcher a chicken. She said that
"Saturday was our first attempt at chicken butchering. We got together with some dear friends of ours and did it together so they could teach us how and what to do."
We did not get to butcher our roosters this year, but this will be helpful in butchering them next year!
Mrs. Ashley of Jonash... Two of a Kind Working on a Full House also has some Sugar Info I think you might want to take a look at.
"Have you ever heard of Icumsa 45 sugar? According to estimation each person consumes an estimated 24 kilos a year – or 52.8lbs!! And most, if not all of the sugar you ingest is going to be Icumsa 45 sugar."
It's very good to know about the food you buy from the store and where it comes from. Don't you think so? :)
Now let's take a refreshing walk with Mrs. Ashley through her garden gate as she has some news about her growing garden in Updates In Gardening and More. She tells about
"My garden, half-tended to, is growing strongly. We should start eating green beans soon and will probably eat them as a staple most of the rest of the summer. Some of my beans are purple, which I find hauntingly beautiful among the dark green leaves of the plants and so unique!"
It will be so fun to soon be picking our own veggies from the garden and eating them. Mrs. Ashley also has some more updates about her home in that post.
While we're still in the garden, why don't we hop on over to the flower beds with ZooKeeperCat. They have just been dug over at ZooKeeperCat's. She said in her post, First Dirt,
"I spent two hours digging over a flowerbed today. For the last two years, my beds have suffered serious neglect in favour of the market garden. Now that I'm no longer doing that...well, actually, I feel like myself again."
I can't wait to see some pictures of her flowerbed when it is done. Go and read the rest of her post.
Stephanie of Stop The Ride has a question to ask -Would you eat that? She said that this question was -
"This question is for the meat eaters out there. We have a lamb that is butchering age. I like lamb and order it occasionally in restaurants, but cooking it myself is new territory to me."
I am not sure I would eat what she is talking about. But find out for yourself in her post. It may tingle your tastebuds.
Alright, to satisfy our tastebuds now, let's all have a piece of Berry Pie with Grandma Rosie of Grandma Rosie's Texas Home. It sounds great once you read the recipe. :) I can't wait to have this as a summer treat for my family!
Now let's go with GP of Innside Montana-Your Home at the Range, because has a question to ask you in Viva Simplicity...
"What is it about summer time that conjures up memories of childhood? Maybe it was because summer’s always were a return to simplicity.. more of a time to kick back and enjoy what life’s about"
She gives a list of things that were so simple that they could such delight to her. A wonderful post, I must say.
HowToMe shows us How To Make a Birthday Tablecloth.
"The traditions my parents established for our home are a source of nostalgia for me today. My husband and I wanted celebration in our home to reflect the joys of our childhood but also be unique. The most unusual part of our kids’ birthdays is their Birthday Tablecloth. Guests write messages and sign their names on it, year after year. At three, our oldest jumped out of bed and ran to the dining room. With an excited voice I heard, “Mommy, it’s my birthday! I see my birthday cloth!” Joy! This is how I made it."
They give a complete list of the supplies you will need to make this. They give great sewing tips and lots of how-tos.
And finally, Mrs. Amy from SimpleFolk has an interesting book in her library, called A Simple Woman's Daybook. Perhaps we should take a walk to her library and check this book out.
"Outside my Window...chickens pecking in the grass. :-)
I am thinking...about my week ahead.
I am thankful for...that my back felt better this morning. Thank you for the sweet prayers!
I am creating... a spot for all of our baking supplies to prepare for the baking contest we entered."
It's very interesting to read. Perhaps we should all have one of these books.
Hope you all enjoyed the Carnival!

Happy Birthday Caleb and Daddy! :)
Today is Dad's birthday. The 18th was my Lil' Bro Caleb's birthday. I was not able to post about it then, so I am doing a combined birthday post for them both.
First, I must sing the song -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR CALEB AND DAD!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
You can find Dad's blog here: A Simple Man, if you want to leave him a comment wishing him a Happy Birthday. He doesn't blog on it too much, but all of my cyber-space friends, please wish him a Happy Birthday! :) He would greatly enjoy that!
If you wish to leave a comment for Caleb, go to Mom's blog, Walking Therein, and leave one. He thinks that her blog is his blog too. He is so funny when he says to Mom, "Can I looka mina blog?" :D What a sweetie he is! Caleb was the poster-boy for Miss Kylie's 20 Day Prayer Challenge, as you see here -

This is not the most recent picture of him, but look at him, he's just as cute now as he was then!

Miss Jocelyn did a super-neat post ab out his birthday... she even put a slideshow on it. Very cute pictures of him in his Cowboy Outfit. She wrote a poem about him too. Go check it out!
Our Cowboy Caleb
Thank you for joining me today in celebration of Dad's birthday and Lil' Cowboy Caleb's birthday! Have a blessed day!

Prince Caspian... Could I be More Disappointed?
I am very sorry, indeed very sorry, and upset that Prince Caspian movie was not at all to my liking. I am a big make-sure- the-movie-is-like- the-book kind of person. After seeing this movie, I am not sure I will be seeing the others. It's a great movie, that's no mistake. But for a person who loved the books and was very much anticipating seeing the movie, I did not like it. Perhaps if I had not read the books, I would have liked it more, but having read them, they completely ruined the movie. It could have been so fun. But alas, as they do all movies, the only things that were right in it were:
The names of the characters.
The places.
And about 5 of the scenes.
Disappointing?
Plus, the timeline was off... which kind of confused things... and I hated the way they made it when Prince Caspian is fleeing from the palace after the birth of his uncle's son. They should have made it longer. Another scene which I wished the would have made the way in the book was when Prince Caspian meets the Pevensies.
I would not recommend anyone to see this if they have a love for the books. What we knew in the books, what C.S. Lewis wrote, his whole world of Narnia, is changed in the movie. You will be disappointed with it, as I was. I am not saying to *not* go see it. I am only saying that if you think it will be like the book, it is not. I was mad at the ending of it. What they did with Susan went totally against her character, along with Prince, or I should say 'king' now, Caspian. You will be surprised at what she does. There was an unnecessary romance between Caspian and Susan. I was mad about that. I am not going to tell you what they do, unless you are not going to see it, because I don't want to give away any part of the movie.
The first one, The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe was almost *exactly* like the book. I thought that Prince Caspian would be also. I know I am just picky about books people try to make movies out of. I am sure a lot of people enjoyed it. I enjoyed it, but I could not stop saying to myself, "That part is not in there" or "That is so totally wrong" or "Why did they do that?" :(
In the poster I put on there, which was the only one I could find, Prince Caspian looks a little evil. I wanted more of a close-up picture of the Pevensies, but that was the only one I could find. the problem was, what I had imagined while reading the books, I expected to be in the movie. I was so excited that it was actually going to come to life. But I was wrong.
After we left the theater, we went to Wal-Mart to take back a shirt Jocelyn bought, but didn't like. While we were there, I got three shirts. One was a burnt orange, one was a light, almost teal type of blue, and one was white with a red, white and blue bird swooping down on it, with the words, "Forever Freedom". It goes with the whole Fourth Of July thing. They only cost $4.00 each... so I am hoping to go back and get some more. They had different colours.

Another Fun Week! :)
This past week and weekend has been so much fun. With all the commotion regarding Jocelyn's 17th birthday party, we have been busy but it has been fun. Last Thursday, we cleaned for the most part of the day. Dad had been planning a surprise for us, but Amanda and Jocelyn had found out. We had thought that Dad was going to bring something home for us. I asked him if it was bigger than a car. He said yes. What could be bigger than a car? Well, Dad wouldn't let us eat dinner until the surprise came. We were asking Caleb what it was because Mom had told him what it was. Around 8:15pm, a white car pulls up the driveway. Then, when it was parked, Dad tells us kids to go out and see who it is. Guess what? It was my Grandma and Aunt Jen! I hadn't seen my Aunt in over 2 years. This was such a great surprise.
Later that night, after everything had been done, we got our haircuts. I got a picture of me with my hair getting cut, but I don't want to put it on here. Not a very good one of me. But here is one of Jocelyn getting her perm:

After her perm was done, Auntie Christina wanted Jocelyn to open her birthday present from her. You know, it was her birthday. So she did, and guess what it was? A beautiful afghan! Look at the colours! It is so beautiful, and so Jocelyn. She loves it.

I went to bed around 4am... after a snack of cheese and pickles.
On Friday, my Grandma and Aunt went to my uncle's to spend the day with them. So Jocelyn, Amanda and I went to the store to shop for clothes for Jocelyn. We went to Peeble's, but did not find anything that was worth $30 - $40. Then we went to Kroger, because Jocelyn had said they had gotten some new organic stuff there that Amanda really likes. Amanda also got some makeup for Mom. We found a Boston fern, which Mom really likes, so we had to get it for her. It's huge. She calls it 'monster'. Then we went to Wal-Mart to see if they had any shirts or skirts we would be interested in. We didn't find any but we did get some flowers for Mom, Grandma and Aunt Jen. We got Mom yellow roses, Grandma white roses, and Aunt Jen white-and-pink carnations. They were very pretty.
Oh, before we left for the store, Jocelyn got to open her gift from Eyebright and Bluejane: a beautiful green shawl. It has a flower design on it. Very neat!

We came home and started cleaning. After dinner, we started preparing the food for the party. We were up until 2am, making, cutting, putting away... boy were we tired!!!
We got up around 10am on Saturday... then the cleaning and making ready began! We set of the tables and chairs outside, and made sure everyone was in fresh clothes. By the time people started arriving, which was the B.'s, we had everything read. Even the tea and lemonade was made. We had such fun talking and telling stories. Then we ate lunch. The kids ate outside, and the adults, besides Mr. and Mrs. B. ate inside.
Here is a couple pictures from when we were eating:

20 Day Prayer Challenge - Praying For China and America
Bible Verse of the Day
Psalm 6:9
9The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
I have decided to pray for China during the 20 Day Prayer Challenge that Miss Kylie and Miss Jocelyn are doing. It is National Prayer Day. I am going to be praying for China. Here is the flag of China:
Though I don't know much about China, I know enough to know that they need a lot of prayer. Some don't know what the religion in China is, so I will tell you. It's Buddhism and Taoism. Buddhism was introduced from India and Central Asia during the Han dynasty and became very popular among Chinese of all walks of life, embraced particularly by commoners, and sponsored by emperors in certain dynasties. Taoism is an indigenous religion of China and is traditionally traced to the composition of Lao Zi's Tao Te Ching (The Book of Tao and Its Virtues) or to seminal works by Zhang Daoling. The philosophy of Taoism is centered on "the way"; an understanding of which can be likened to recognizing the true nature of the universe. As we know, both of these religions is not the way to heaven.
I am hoping to learn a lot more about China as I pray for it's people and country.
I will be praying steadfastly everyday for China and her people to see the Light. As Christ said unto us,
Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Amanda did an article for this month's Growing In Grace Magazine about World Press Freedom Day. She did a really good article about World Press Freedom. She talks about how the government in China,
"Even though China has made promises of reform, the Chinese authorities have not kept their promises, they also have intensified their strangulation of free press, they have oppressed the journalists, and other who seek to exercise their rights to freedom of expression!
Go check out her post. It's great!
Along with China, I am going to be praying for my own country, America. I think our country needs as much prayer as China. Living in America, I know what it is like. Our country will need to turn back to God before it is too late. Help me as I pray for our country.
I found these verses that I thought went a little with praying:
Romans 10:18
But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
Psalm 6:9
9The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
I love those verses... I hope you will join us in praying for other countries. As Miss Kylie said in her post, "Let's make the Gate of Hells shake as they did when Jesus rose again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Who's going to join us? Sign your name/link to the list!"

Yes... We are the Blogger-Meeters!
This past weekend has been a lot of fun. Thursday night we tore up the carpet in the kitchen. Finally! We were all so excited about that. Dad brought tile squares home to lay down. The prep-work was the time-consuming part. We tore the carpet, then the stuff underneath it, that foamy stuff. Once we got that out, we removed all the tack-strips and staples. We couldn't move the stove and the fridge at that time so we cut around it.
Dad, Eric, Hannah and I sanded almost the whole floor Thursday night. We kids had a piece of sandpaper, while Dad used the sander. It was hard and tiring work. It made my back and my arms ache. Plus I got some of the dust in my throat. I coughed a few times while I was in bed.
Friday, we moved the fridge and sanded under it. Eric and the girls did most of that. When Dad got home, we moved the stove and got all the tack-strips and staples out of the floor. Then I sanded it with the sander. After we did that, we had to make the tiles we lined up straight. I started having a headache while we laid the first two tiles. I laid down on the couch for a bit, then took a shower. I went to bed right after that.
When I got up on Saturday morning, it was weird walking through the kitchen. I expected carpet, and the was a nice tile. It's great! Why would people in their right minds put carpet in the kitchen? And it was a white-and-brown sort of carpet. Oh, boy, was it gross. The one time us kids spilled an entire 5-gallon bucket of hot water on the floor. It was a mess. But it's gone now. It's easier to clean, and look very nice. Almost looks like stone.
Time passed on Saturday, and we were rushing to get everything cleaned up for when Sprittibee and her kids came. The time passed quickly. Pretty soon, we were still cleaning but took a break. The girls and Mom watched a movie about Queen Elizabeth. I got on the computer since it was free to do whatever I needed to.
On Sunday morning, everyone was excited about getting to meet Sprittibee. We rushed around all day. I bet we cleaned the counters in the kitchen every ten minutes. We wanted everything to be perfect. It was so funny when they pulled into the driveway. Sprittibee was taking pictures out the window, and they were driving very slowly.
They came in and dinner was done. We ate. It was so good. Amanda made mashed potatoes with a chicken noodle gravy on top, with green beans and peas. Oh it was good! Sprittibee had to take some picture of a plate, Morgan's to be exact. It was funny. I had her camera some of the time. It was fun taking pictures of her kids, herself, and her mom, Chicki.
Sprittibee downloaded all of the 800-some pictures she took on the way down here. There were so many! She had two cards and they were both full of pictures. Some of the pictures were really cool. Then, around 12:30am, we went upstairs so Dad could sleep on the couch. We talked until 4am, just random stories, talking about things. It was really fun. Poor Morgan tried to stay awake with us but she fell asleep by 2:30am. I had to sleep in my little brother's bed with Hannah so Mom could sleep in mine. I was sort of scrunched but I slept good, because I was so tired!
Got up around 10:11am yesterday morning. They had already done chores... so there was nothing for me to do but stand around and help with whatever I needed to. They got all their stuff packed and into the car. Then Sprittibee suggested we go to Chipotle's for lunch. We had been talking about it the night before. I had never been there before. We went and got lots of pictures. When we were leaving Sprittibee needed all of us in a picture, so we got all of our pictures taken. There was also this beautiful cherry tree surrounded by these orange and yellow flame-looking tulips. Oh, it was so pretty. We stood in front of it so that was the background for the pictures. She also got some pictures of Lucy and the flowers. Lucy *loves* flowers. Practically adores them!
But soon, too soon, it was time for them to leave. We gave and got hugs and "See you in Texas". Eric and Hannah were thinking of stashing away in their van, but they were forced into our own van. There were many goodbyes, and finally we drove off. We went to Wal-Mart, and they followed us. I thought maybe they needed help getting out of town. Nope, they were just getting gas. That was the last time I saw them. :(
Mom and I went into Wal-Mart and got some fruit to eat on the home for the kids. Then we got Mom, Jocelyn and me a pop from the machines. We got the Littles a can of Twist Up to share. I got a cherry coke. They didn't have anything else I wanted. Amanda didn't want anything. Then we got to get some ice cream at Dairy Queen. That was a good treat. I got an Oreo blizzard. It was great! I got a small, but it was enough. Hannah could barely finish hers.
We got home and did the regular stuff. We had such a fun time with Sprittibee and her kids, and her mother. Just a fantastic time. I can't wait to see them again! Sprittibee said she would send us some of the pictures she took. I can't wait to get them. She has a really nice camera. I really liked it. All in all, we had a wonderful time with them, and I can't wait to see them again!

Saturday Psalm & Praise - Battle Hymn Of The Republic
I just learned the entire song a few weeks ago. But, it has always been a favourite, even if I am off-tune when I sing it! :o)
Battle Hymn Of The Republic
by Julia W. Howe, 1819-1910
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,
He is tramping out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed His fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword,
His truth is marching on.
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Glory, glory hallelujah!
His truth is marching on!
I have seen Him in the watchfires of an hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an alter in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
His day is marching on.
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Glory, glory hallelujah!
His day is marching on!
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
God is marching on.
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Glory, glory hallelujah!
Glory, glory hallelujah!
God is marching on!
I am thinking this song was put to fit into the future battle where the devil will be defeated. I know that the first verse was from Revelation, "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord, He is tramping out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed His fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword, His truth is marching on." The Sword that came out of His mouth; the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored... hmm... Look it up. :)
I hope you are participating in the Saturday Psalm & Praise Meme. It's so easy to participate in a meme; you just post a post!

My Recipe Box - Mom's Recipe For French Toast
I thought you would all like to make breakfast on Sunday for your family and so I am giving one of the recipes Mom made to fit us, being the organic-home-grow-it-make-it-better-for-us people we are. :) Hope you enjoy it as much I do. My little brother, Eric, made some yesterday morning for a late breakfast. He does a pretty good job on them. If you do make 'em, tell me how they turned out. I love to hear about them. :)
French Toast
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1 Tbsp. honey
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsps. vanilla
2 tsps. flax seed
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
And...the directions: Whip eggs with fork. Mix in flour, water, vanilla and flax. Stir in honey. Add milk. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Soak each slice of bread for a few seconds, coating it. Put in slightly greased iron skillet. Flip when bread lifts easily from pan.

What a Weekend!
Well, I am sorry I have not been able to post for awhile. We have been quite busy with getting everything ready for LucyLillie's party that was Monday. On Sunday, my Grt. Grandparents and Mom's dad came over for awhile to spend time together. Lucy got a couple presents and then we just spent time talking. Jocelyn showed Grt. Grandma the icon she made for the Feelin' Feminine Challenge using the picture from their wedding. She was thrilled when she saw it. That picture is one of my favourites, if I may say so myself. :)
Monday was a whirlwind of fun! I got up around 9:30am to do chores with Eric and make sure everything was spick and span for when the company arrived. We did two or three tubs of dishes before lunch, and then when lunch was done, there was two more tubs to do! Oh... dishes accumulate so quickly. :( The only bad thing was that Lucy-Goosey wasn't feeling too well. We think she is cutting a new tooth, but she was kind of warm all day. Grouchy... poor baby. She had a fun time wit her presents though!
Around three Breezy, Emily Rose, and their Mom got here. It was kind of awkward for the first fifteen minutes because we didn't know what to say. Haha. Like it always is with meeting new people. Emily Rose got out he camera to take some pictures and Eric and Hannah wanted it. There are more of the Emily Rose and Breezy with the Littles than of Lucy!
Our neighbour also came by for awhile. We ate a delicious dinner of spaghetti, with green beans and peas for vegetables. Oh and don't forget the delicious garlic bread too! Everyone enjoyed it. Jocelyn and Amanda made it, the famous Dixon Chefs. After that, Jocelyn frosted the cake. Amanda had Dad pick up some strawberry frosting and she decorated the sides of the cake with that and wrote on the top. It was a pretty nice homemade birthday cake. We ate it with some Neapolitan ice cream. The funny thing about the ice cream was that the girls hadn't thought of scooping it across the entire tub, getting all three kinds at once. We joked about that for awhile.
While we ate our ice cream and cake, Lucy opened her gifts. she got the same dresses from Breezy and Emily Rose as she got from my Grandma Starr. it was funny. But now we have two, so if one gets dirty, she can wear the other! Haha. They are so cute though. Ones green and ones pink. They are both dresses too. She also got a purple sweater that is the cutest ever from the B's.
After that we hung around. Breezy and Emily Rose went outside for a little while. Breezy played football-catch with Eric and Dad for a bit and Emily Rose and I talked. We went in for awhile, and Emily Rose showed Jocelyn how to do a few tricks on PhotoShop. I sat on the swing set for a little bit pushing Caleb and watching Eric and Dad play catch. When I came in, Eric and Emily Rose went and fed the chickens. Mrs. B also came down to the barn while we did the chores. I gathered the eggs, and fed Pemberly. They all loved the goats and we spent about fifteen minutes down there petting them and talking. After that it was getting dark, so they had to leave. :( I was sad about that. We took some 'farewell' pictures before they left. We could have stalled a little longer, but they really had to go. They left around nine.
All in all, it was a good day. Lucy wasn't feeling well for most of it... poor dear... :( She ate some crackers and ice. Just not a good day for her birthday! Well, maybe she will be better tomorrow. Oh and we also got a call from Auntie Christina. They all sang happy birthday to Lucy on the phone. It was so sweet.
Guess who's birthday is coming up next? Yep, Jocelyn. She is having a grand party with lots of things.. not exactly sure what is going to happen. I know she sent out lots of invitations. We are hoping that Breezy and Emily Rose will be able to come with both their parents. It will be fun anyways... :)
Ok, well, I had better go comment now. Hope you all have a lovely day! God bless you.
Rachel

The Trip Down to the Suarez's and Takin' a Detour to North Carolina!
Ok, so I am sitting here. Doing nothing. In fact, there is nothing to do. So, I'll tell you about the trip down here, and why we got here at 4am when we left at 6:33pm.
Dad got home around 5:30, and he got everything ready to go. He rented a car to drive down instead of the van.We stopped once in Kentucky. We were making good time until we got into TN. Then Amanda saw a sign for White Pines. We went all the North Carolina! She thought that White Pines was in TN. So we went about 50 miles and then Dad and Amanda realized we weren't in the right state. And the bad of it was we were almost on E! That was really scary. Amanda was freaking out about it. Plus the roads were so curving, oh boy, it was nuts!
We stopped in the next town coming back and got gas. Then we were on our way again. We didn't get there until 4am, but we made it. Paulie and Levi were up waiting for us. We came in and went upstairs and set all of our stuff down. Then Amanda got on the computer and did some stuff. Paulie and Levi 'tested' the games they are going to be playing. :)
Levi was working on an entry. Paulie wouldn't let him when we got here. Levi wanted to stay up all night but Paulie told him they would need at least some sleep. So they went to bed around 5:30am and got up around 10:30-something. We got up and Levi and Luke were up. Then Dad took a shower and then we talked for about a bit about Schooter and how naughty he has been. Levi did the dishes that were in there, then he made some coffee.
The three boys got to open their birthday gifts. They were all pillow cases. Paulie's has a Tux on it. Luke's has a chess king on it. Levi's was just a camping background that matches his blog. :) They had fun with it. Ok, that is all. Amanda and Paulie want to get on and learn how to play this game...
Sincerely,
Lady Rachel

A Funny Picture
This picture was taken when we first put our chickens down into the barn:

***Ain't he a tough one? He's scared of everything now. He won't even stand up to a hen most times. He will fight with the roosters occasionally.***
It is one of our roosters. His name is Paint because he has so many different coloured feathers. He is a big baby when you go near him he'll run away, but he is tough among his hens!
Here is another one that has Angelwings:

***Angelwings is the white one; the rooster is the black and white one, with the Professor in the back with another Americauna and a Rhode Island Red.***
Angelwings is a hen. She is called that because when she first was loosing her fluff, only her wings were white. She is mine. :) It also has one of our other roosters, one of out Americaunas. He is a salt-and-pepper-coloured rooster. We have two that look almost the same. It also has one of our other favourite Americaunas in it: Professor Kirke. That was before we found out she was a hen. We haven't named her anything else yet. Still trying to name her. :)
Hope you enjoyed the post and pictures. I am gonna go comment now. :)

Pumpkin Chip Cookies
I got this recipe from my dear friend Kylie, aka All4Him, awhile back. I must admit, I have not made them yet, but I will soon! When you make them, tell me how they turned out, and then leave Kylie a comment telling her. I hope they are good. Pumpkin is one of my favourite kinds of deserts things. Please enjoy!
Pumpkin Chip Cookies
1 1/2 cups butter
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 15 oz. can pumpkin
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
2 cups oats
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Here are your directions: Heat oven to 350*. Cream butter and sugars. Beat in the pumpkin, egg, and vanilla. Combine the flour, oats, soda, cinnamon, and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in morsels. Drop by tablespoonfuls about two inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for about 12 minutes.
Hope you enjoy the recipe,
Rachel
