Saturday Psalm & Praise - Go Light Your World

Posted in Saturday Psalm and Praise

Saturday Psalm & Praise - Go Light Your World

I have been thinking a lot about how I can be a witness and win souls for Christ. I am always reminded of a song that I love, though I've only heard if sung once or twice and only know the verse part of it. It is called "Go Light Your World."

Go Light Your World
There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home

It is sad how many children know Christ as a little child, but when they grow up, they see only silliness instead of Salvation. We must get the Word to young souls who could be used for God's glory, not for Satan's pleasure. We must again spark up a flame in the hearts of young ones for the Lord, and let it not go out, as the Five Virgins did.

So carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

We must carry *our* candles out into the darkness of the world, with the Sword of the Spirit in our rightaponderingheart.com/bloghand. The Gospel is the only way that this world will ever better from this disease called "sin." We must seek out the helpless and the ones who are confused by Satan and bring them to the awesome truth of God's love. He is not willing that any should perish -

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

He doesn't want anyone to go to hell. Yes, Hell is a real place. It was not meant for humans though; it was meant for the devil and his [fallen] angels.

Frustrated brother, see how he's tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister, she's been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame

We must seek out the lost who try to find their own way to salvation, when there is only one way - Jesus Christ.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

He is the Mediator between God's judgment for our sins [which would be eternal separation from Him] and us. He is the One who gave His life so that we might live forever without fear of Satan and his minions. He gives us power over them, and we have no need to fear anything, save God Almighty.

So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

Hold out your candle for all to see, so that they might see the dazzling light of Christ's love for us. It is

aponderingheart.com/blog

hard to fathom why God, our Maker and the Creator of the universe and all that's in it, would come down from heaven and die a criminal's death for us. God's love is truly great!

Cause We are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let's raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times

Let remember that we are all family, we all came from Adam and Eve and we are all of one blood. (Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth...) If enough people raise candles to the sky, we are bound to be noticed by someone. I want to be a beacon in the darkness, and star in the sky.

So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world

I think you get the point of this song, and why I am writing this post. Go tell people about Christ is the most important thing you can do for God. The time is running out for when Christ will return, and we not not the hour when He shall come. God the Father is the only One who knows when Christ will return to take back with Him those who are faithful, not even the Son of God knows -

Mark 13:32
But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

We need to be on the watch and doing everything possible to win souls to Christ. Otherwise, they are going to hell. Hell is a scary place, where there is no rest from the torment that the devil and his demons will inflict on lost souls. They will be there for eternity and never escape from it.

Nothing makes Satan more happy than to see us humans in torment because he knows it torments and saddens our Maker. Have you ever wondered why Satan hates you so much and does everything possible to hurt you? Because you are made in the image of God, his sworn enemy.

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

If there is some one you know who is not saved, I really think you should go over and talk to them. Our closest neighbour, who lives right down the road, doesn't know God. I keep praying that something will be brought up or I will be able to witness to him somehow. Pray for him to see the light before it is too late.

Prayerfully serving the Lord,
    Miss Rachel

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Posted in My Recipe Box!

A friend of mine sent this recipe to me in a recipe exchange, so I wanted to share it with you all. Enjoy and let me know if you try it. :)

Chocolate Chip Muffins

What you need to make these muffins -

2 cups of flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 Tbs. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Mix these ingredients together in a medium bowl. Then mix and add:

1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup oil
Mini chocolate chips (the big ones sink, plus less looks like more!)

Stir the last ingredients, besides the chocolate chips, into the above dry ingredients. Then fold in the mini chocolate chips. You can put these in muffin cups or grease your own muffin cups. Bake these muffins at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. (or until a toothpick stuck in one comes out clean.)

Let me know how they turn out if you make them. :)
Love,
  Rachel

The Homesteading Carnival #84

Posted in Carnivals

I'm very glad that you have come by to read The Homesteading Carnival today! It is my pleasure to present to you the 84th Edition of The Homesteading Carnival. Take a look around and tell me how you like the Carnival with a comment. :)

From The Kitchen -

We have lots of great recipes and kitchen tips in the kitchen this week. We'll start off with a warming breakfast from Tracey at Glue on her fingers, dirt on her toes, she makes laughter wherever she goes wants you to CELEBRATE PANCAKE DAY with her. This is a great post with lots of links for pancake recipes, craft ideas, even a unit study on it!

Over at Growing In Grace Magazine, I posted on the Creative Kitchen: 10 Of My Favourite Kitchen Essentials. "I simply thought I would tell you all 10 of my favourite kitchen tools."

Then Emma over at Baby-Log wanted to tell What it takes to teach a toddler feed himself. "When your baby starts trying to feed himself, you quickly realize how easy, even boring, you life was before."

Next Annette Berlin at Craft Stew wants to tell about an "unusual recipe came from my favorite cookbook, The 5 In 10 Pasta And Noodle Cookbook.  However, I’ve made so many changes to the original, that it’s practically a new recipe." It's Pasta In Sun-Dried Tomato Sauce.

Miss Hannah at Everyday Musings wanted to tell everyone about soem recipes she enjoys making. One of them is Daddy's (newly Hannah's and Daddy's) Biscuits. There is a couple of different recipes on there, and if you like to cook or bake, take a look!

At Walking Therein, Momma has a wonderful recipe if you have a cold or any sort of ailment. GOOT Garlic Oil Salve for What Ails You GOOT is the one natural treatment that has worked for us, and I am sure it will work for you. "Freshly made, the mixture is a milky color and runny. GOOT turns into a thick soft paste after one hour. After being in the fridge for several hours, it is just hard like a salve easy to spread."

The last stop at the table is Homemade Provençal Rack of Lamb from Jim. It was posted at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity. "I challenge you to find an entree that includes any cut of lamb that costs less than $20.49."

Being Frugal -

Since we are in the kitchen, why don't we take a look at how to be frugal with our things. Abi over at the lighter side shows you a Cool way to attrack birds. "This is a very fun and easy “any time of the year” project. However, with Spring on its way I thought I'd post it now." This is a very easy way to be frugal with the things you already have on hand.

Mrs. Kelli at Make It From Scratch wanted to share about a Fresh & Clean Laundry Soap. This is something all homemakers should take a look at. "Recently I decided to test out some homemade laundry soap. I've been using Charlie's Soap, which I completely love, but I can no longer get locally, so I decided to look to my current products for an answer."

HowToMe presents How To Disguise a HDTV Antenna posted at HowToMe. Said "This solution isn’t a source of pride, but simply one that works, saves money, and is pleasant enough to pass for homemade art."

From The Study -

In the study, Alex at Home Life Weekly has some Printable Mothers Day Cards. "To make a printable Mothers Day cards is really easy to make all you need to do is download the Mothers Day Day Card design of you choice then print and fold." There are some really pretty cards.

From The Beauty Parlour -

This is something everyone thinks about. How to stay looking younger longer.  Well, Aparna at the Beauty & Personality Grooming wants to let everyone know about Kapalabhati Pranaya. "After the age of 25, the tell-tale signs of aging start making their appearance in the form of fine lines on the forehead."

From The Barn -

Next we go to the barn, where Clara Myers at Mind Mart said A Chicken In Every Cul de Sac.Hen Art Print by Glenda Brown It makes me glad we have our own chickens! She said, "Have you seen the price of organic eggs? If you kept two chickens in your backyard, the ladies will probably supply you with more eggs than you can eat on a regular basis."

Ooh! Let's go over to the kidding pen to see Mrs. Stephanie New Kids at Adventures in the 100 Acre Wood. She said, "Poor Sally was huge. Her udder so big she could barely walk. When we went to feed yesterday afternoon, there they were, a boy and a girl." Beautiful new blessings!

From The Greenhouse -

Now we'll go to the greenhouse over at Avon Waters, at Back-to-the-land Two has a lovely article for planters, both beginners and old-timers. Plant seeds accurately and save time is "for gardeners who don't like to buy onion sets or transplants, they are also the first that will start from seed and usually begin in February or early March." This is something the early gardeners should definitely take a look at.

Nancy Muller also has a very good article for people who live in small homes, A Ton of Garden, A Tiny Space;Strawberries for the Apartment Dweller or Suburbanite. It was posted at Recession Depression Therapy. "Here are some ways to cram a zillion strawberries into your tiny space. Each link will show the item from one of the sources I trust for decent service." Has lots of wonderful info for gardeners.

From The School Room -

Well, now we are in the school room. The last room for the Carnival-goers to take a look in. One Family at One Family's Blog has a little post they want you to look at Best Worldwide Stamp Catalogs & Free Stamps Giveaway posted . "Stamp Catalogs attempt to enumerate, illustrate, and evaluate stamps issued by the world’s various postal departments."

Belle over at Homesteaderbelle's Blog wants you all to join her in Earth Hour - Turn out your lights for one hour. "I have the date Saturday, March 28, 2009 marked on my calender to shut out my lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m. (local time) for Earth Hour."

Hope you enjoyed the Carnival!

Love,
   Rachel

From My Bakery - Challah Bread

Posted in My Recipe Box!

This is a bread that I have wanted to try to make, but never found the courage to try my hand at making it until a couple of weeks ago. I do very ill when making bread, and so I never thought to make this beautiful braided bread.

But I did, and so, I am sharing it with all of my bloggy friends through my blog. I did not get a photo of the bread I made the first time, but I do have photos of the bread I just made a couple of days ago. I will have to add those photos to this post from the camera when I can, but the recipe will have to do for now. :) You will forgive me.

This recipe yields 2 large loaves
What you need to make the bread -
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons instant active dry yeast
1/2 cup honey
1tablespoon oil
4 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon sugar
5 cups flour, plus additional flour (may take 8 or 9 cups of flour total)

Take 1/2 cup of the warm water from above and mix the yeast and 1 Tbsp of sugar with it in the large mixing bowl you will be using to make this bread. Then combine the rest of the ingredients in a large bowl in order listed. Add enough flour and knead to make a smooth dough.

Knead for approximately 10 minutes. Oil top of bread and cover. Let the dough rise in a warm place until almost doubled, about 1-1/2 hours. (I let mine rise for a 2 whole hours because I was working in the kitchen making breadsticks.) Punch down.

Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 14-15" long and about 1inch in diameter. Lay 4 ropes side-by-side on your working surface. (Make sure to put a little flour down before you put the ropes down or they will stick to the table.)

Then the pinch tops of the strands together. Braid tightly starting on the left, taking the rope over two and under one. Pinch bottom ends and fold under. Place braids on greased baking sheets and cover. Let rise in a warm place for 25-30 minutes.

Then brush with beaten eggs and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds. (I did not put poppy or sesame seeds on the loaves I made, but you are welcome to do that. Take your pick.)

Bake at 325 degrees for 30-40 minutes, until done. (If loaves are on two separate sheets, rotate halfway through baking time for even baking.) If loaves start to brown too quickly, loosely lay a piece of foil on top. Cool on wire racks, covered. Then, enjoy with some nice butter on it or simply eat it plain!

I did not braid the strands like the way you braid hair. I braided them the way you braid the six-strand Challah bread. You can go here to see photos on some of the steps above and there is a video at the end of the post of how to braid a six-strand Challah bread.

Have you made this bread? Yes? Well, leave me a comment and tell me how you liked it and if you had the grand success with it. Have any recipes to share? I would be glad to take a look at your recipe box!

Love,
  Rachel

GTH - Chip In To Help Single Moms!

Posted in Family

Vicki

Gleaning the Harvest is a single mother support site that my mother and father started back in December. There are moms all over the country, like Miss Vicki, who is struggling to keep her girls at home and not have to go and get a job. Could you help her at all? She is trying to home school her two daughters, while still trying to pay her bills. She wants to stay home. Could you help her make this happen?

LirettesWhat about Mrs. Lirette and her two girls? Mr. Lirette was killed in a drunk driving accident last May, on Mother's Day. Here is part of the story she tells on her page at GTH - "A 21 year old drunk driver, who was also on drugs, crossed the center line, hitting Elgin head on. Elgin was carrying 2 1/2 tons of offshore oilfield equipment which slammed into the back of his truck’s cab, splitting his head open and killing him. Both vehicles burst into flames, burning both bodies beyond recognition. That was the beginning of my “nightmare.”"

Charlene

Miss Charlene is also trying to home school her two young boys to lead a better life for the Lord. She tells a little about her former life in her story - "I was married for four years, and I found out my ex husband was unfaithful while I was pregnant with my youngest son, Brady. He did not make any effort to save the marriage at all, and I found myself as a single mom to two little boys at 22. We had no financial support from the start and barely any contact from him at all."

Norris

Mrs. Lizzie is the newest young mother that we are trying to help out on Gleaning The Harvest. Her husband, Lee, is incarcerated. You can read her entire story here - Mrs. Lizzie Norris & James. But here is a little bit about the condition of today -  "Today, Lizzie and James are home, trusting in the LORD to provide for them and keep them in Him. Lizzie provides for and home schools James and lives as a single mother, yet she is still wife to Lee."

Your support of any of these mothers would be an answer to prayers. Putting their icon and the GTH icon on your blog also would help others to see their needs. Posting and tweeting about GTH will also help to spread the news around. Every Dollar Is An Answer to Prayer.

Miss Rachel

Another Day Is Dawning...

Posted in My Daily Life

Outside it is getting lighter, meaning chores are soon to be done. I am the only one up again, as no one else likes getting up at such a time as 6:30am. I don't blame them. Perhaps I should have picked a later time, like 7:30am. But I think the reason why I picked that time was because Daddy leaves around 6:35-40am, and I like saying good bye to him in the morning. :)
Even though it is getting lighter outside, the sun is not up yet. But I am sure I will see red streaks soon enough. Unless it's a cloudy day. I love sunrises! If the clouds want to come out after the sunrise, then that is fine, but not before it please! It's a beautiful thing to behold, as I told in my last post about the sunrise of the other morning.

But I am so glad that I am able to start afresh this day to try and make no mistakes in it. So I must go and wake up my sister and see if she will do chores with me. Then a shower, and then, the house looks like a small tornado went through it so I made a list of things that needs to be done today that I will post about later, and what I accomplished off that list.

I will try to get some photos of the goats and chickens... I always seem to forget to take the camera down when I do chores so I can snap a few shots of them. I will have to do that today and upload them so you all can see them.
Oh and just on a side note - a friend is coming to band the bucklings today. Momma said she wanted to be showed before she banded any of them so she didn't hurt them unintentionally. We were told he doesn't want to be paid - he wants cookies or something. So I am thinking of making some nice cocoa brownies for him. So I'll let you know how that goes.

Gotta go now. As long as it took me to write that, I can see the red streaks (ok pink for now) tearing across the sky in a beautiful colour! I'll write again soon, hopefully with photos!
Love,
  Rachel

The Winter Sunrise...

Posted in My Daily Life

As I sit here, the first red streaks of sunlight come creeping over the trees across the eastern field. It is beautiful, quiet, peaceful. It makes me think of the Bible verse that I love -

Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmamen (the 'firmament' is the sky) sheweth his handywork.
Love,
  Rachel
