Thursday on the Homestead

Wow how this week has really flown by!  Today is the last day of the week for Tobin so I am thinking ahead to the weekend. 

Today I will be taking Emily and Leanne to their cleaning job.  Normally Hannah does this but she is working today.  While they are cleaning the kids and I will be going to the library for a visit. 

When we come home I hope to have time to get some lip balm made and maybe get some soap oils ready for some more soap making this weekend.  I behind again!

Dinner tonight may end up being leftovers..  so far this week the meals have not followed my menu very well.  But that is ok, whatever ends up not being served this week, goes on next weeks menu.  I think I will also put on a pot of split pea soup to accompany the leftovers.  The weather here today is wet, wet, wet ..  which makes everything feel cool & damp and soup just  "warms up the bones"  

Grandpa’s birthday dinner turned out wonderful yesterday!  The table was set so nicely, the meal was delicious, the cake was pretty and best of all Grandpa left feeling loved and appreciated by his family.  That makes it all worth it!

this is my second time posting this since my last one got lost when opening a new tab.....ugh!

I think the cake came out really cute, looks darker pink than last year. I am actually going to make it for my dad's birthday tomorrow, and he is the type to really LOVE this kind of thing. I still have the directions you gave last year, so I am all set to do it in the morning. ;-)

I also went to walmart this am to try and get a V day type Tablecloth for 50% off, to no avail. I coudln't believe they had none at all. I even tried to get a white and red checked one at regular price since they are cute, too, but they didn't have on for a large square table. oh well......I didn't have the stamina to run around with 3 kids but I thought I'd give one store a shot. hehe
I did get a few Valentine themed garlands though to make our bedroom festive looking for when dh arrives home on Sunday. He's been gone all week to TX for work training. ;-)

I also tried a new soup recipe for the crockpot. I got this from www.thehomespunheart.blogspot.com and really love it with a tablespoon of romano or parm. over the top. I did it thru a calculator in order to have the nutritional counts since I am on a wt. loss crusade now...here it is:

Pasta E. Fagioli for the Crockpot

1 small can of Goya small white beans
1 small can of Goya red kidney beans
1- 28. oz can of diced tomatoes
1- 28. oz can of crushed tomatoes
1 small jar of pasta sauce (no meat)
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 large carrots, sliced
1 pound of lean ground beef
1 pound of ditalini pasta

Fat: 7.8g Carbohydrates: 46.4g Calories:308.0
Protein: 15.7g

Brown 1 lb. of ground beef with diced onions. Toward
end of cooking time, add garlic for a minute,
stirring. Drain and add to crockpot.

Open all cans at once. Drain beans. Dump into the
crockpot the two beans, the diced tomatoes, and
crushed tomatoes. Next add the pasta sauce. Add 2 tsp.
italian seasoning. Add carrots and celery. Stir and
cover.

Cook on high for 4 hours, or on low all day. Cook
pasta seperately, and add 1/2 cup to each bowl before
pouring the soup over it.

So YUM, and filling, too.
