New Kid in the Barn
Our afternoon plans took an twist.. I went down to the barn to check on the kids that were born a few days ago and to check on all my expecting mama’s… and right out there in the mud sat a brand new kid. Her mama, Lily, just looked at me and baaed as if telling me.. look what just happened to me.. LOL.. Lily is at the bottom of the pecking order and I wonder if the other goats would just not let her in the barn to kid.. or Lily just had no clue what was going on and the instincts just weren’t there.. that is probably more like it!
I ran back to the house to get some towels and let everyone know we had a new kid… They came back to the barn with me. This mama, like my other first time mama Kloey, is not really with it (I will say Kloey is now doing a great job with her 2 kids, so I know Lily will get there too ).. we put her in the stanchion to let her kid nurse and afterwards she acted like she had no interest in her kid at all. I took the new kid and put her over with the other two that were snuggling and sleeping and they looked at her and she snuggled right in with them.. it was so cute.
Then mama was yelling and frantically looking for her.. I showed her where she was at, but now I as sit here typing I hear her yelling again.. Some first time moms just take time to get into the swing of things. I may need to go back to the barn to help her out…
I will put her back on the stanchion this evening so the little kid can nurse again.
Here is a picture of her.. Emily was holding her:

Goat kids make the cutest babies. If I didn't already have goats, I'd be hooked now LOL
