Quiet Life Homestead

Results of Stress, Rain, Garage Sale, etc.

So you'd think by now I'd know better than to let myself get all upset with things that are going on.  I try not to, but too much was piled on yesterday and guess what I had when I woke up this morning.... a cold sore!  I hate those things!!  They only come when I've been really stressed and I guess yesterday was the straw that broke the camel's back.  Charlie teased that although its been a long time since I've had a fat lip, I've deserved it many times!  He's so helpful!  :)  Oh, and to top it all off, for the most glamourous look, I have a mosquito bite on my right eyelid!  The swelling on it has gone down and looks almost like normal - I can see it anyway.

We're to get thunderstorms again today.  We had some rain that began yesterday just after we finished moving everything into the house from the car.  Isn't God awesome!!!!  I hope it stays pretty cool around here so I can get lots done. We have rooms to change around and of course, junk to toss.  I did find out that here we need a permit to have a garage sale.  I'm thinking about asking the owner of the park if maybe we could do some kind of a park-wide sale.  Behind us is a huge open expanse of land - okay, maybe not huge, but pretty big - and it would be enough room for each family to have some space for their items.  Since we can only have one garage sale every 6 months, it would be nice to have a big one.  I remember in 29 Palms, we had one every weekend for a few weeks until it was all gone!

On the purging thing.  I don't think we're thinking enough along the lines of needs and wants.  I'm going to go through my bedroom and bathroom (to begin with and see how it goes) and make a note of all the "needs" and "wants" we have.  For example: the bed is a need, the pot of fake flowers that just collects dust is a want (that I'm not sure that I want).  I'm hoping looking at things this way will help me go through and gather items we don't need to have around.  We really like the sparce look or at least semi-sparce so that's going to take some major work.  Okay, I'm sitting here wondering if sparce is the word I'm looking for.  What we like is Colonial-Pioneer-Farmhouse-The Village type of decorating (at least in terms of possessions).  Maybe its utalitarian (that doesn't look like I spelled it correctly) or spartan.  Oh well.....we also like the camp look but that's a little too cluttered for us.  Rustic - maybe that's it.

Moving on - I told Charlie last night that the two Calvary Chapels closest to us are the one in Oklahoma City (that's where we used to attend) and up in Owasso.  He sounded kinda interested in that but then I reminded him that Owasso is further away than Sapulpa and he had said that was too far.  So he decided that maybe we should try some of the churches around here.  Which basically means one of two (unless we go a little further north - that would add two more) - First Baptist (probably Southern Baptist) or Church of Christ, funny but the two churches that are a bit further north are Southern Baptist and Church of Christ as well.  He grew up Church of Christ where his grandfather was the preacher and would prefer to not attend one - he likes having music.  I grew up going wherever the little bus took us - mostly Methodist or Southern Baptist.  There is a Catholic church here, as well as two Free Will Baptist (no, I can't lose my salvation), and one Methodist church (but it has a female pastor) - those are all out for us.  Now, before I start getting upset comments on this or that - my views are mine and yours are yours.  We try very hard to make our decisions on the Word of God and do the best we can.  You may read the Word and get a different opinion and that's okay.  We can differ and still get along and still be friends.  Okie Dokie?!

So I've been sitting here and typing for almost an hour.  I'd better get off and get started with my day.  Oh, Deanna, if you're reading this, I did join the OFE group (and the Robinson one) but they are a little confusing to me.  Maybe I'll get to understand how it all works with time.....

Wow, I think I could have written half of your post. I get cold sores when I get stressed, we attend Calvary Chapel, we have a chance for rain and I am trying to declutter and get ready for a garage sale!! I would really like to get to that sparse, less cluttered, rustic look too. Boy is it hard. Maybe I need to reread my "Living More with Less" book before I start decluttering. Good luck to you and I hope you get alot done.

**** I'll have to check and see if the library has that book. Maybe it would help me as well!
