Quiet Life Homestead

Tuesday Recap and Rant

We went to Mom's this morning to pick up the window a/c unit we had stored there.  Don't know why we didn't think of picking it up last weekend....  The neighbor freaked out and took his goats back to his house because Cody & Bethany were in the back yard with them.  The kids weren't messing with the goats at all, they were picking berries and checking on the pear and apple trees.  I guess one of the goats was injured this past weekend and although my children didn't do it, who gets blamed?  You guessed it!  I'm so tired of my kids getting blamed for what others do.  It seems like they shouldn't be allowed to be around anyone.  Now before you start thinking that I'm one of those moms who think their children are precious darlings who never do anything wrong I will admit that they do their fair share.  But they would never hit animals.  They are not cruel children and were crushed both by the fact that one of the goats was hurt (but seems to be fine now) but also that they would be accused.  We know who did it and Mom even told him who was.  Her neighbor didn't even listen.  She's riled almost as much as me (me that the kids are being accused of something again) and Mom that not only are they being accused, but that he thinks they have no right in that yard.  We lived on that property for 2 1/2 years before moving to Michigan.  In fact, we lived there one year before we moved Mom out there with us.  We still have belongings in the back shed and barn, but we aren't allowed to go back there to get some of our stuff or to check on crops?  I could really say a bad word right now......but I won't!

I made roast for dinner.  It was so refreshing to get back home and smell dinner cooking in the crock pot!  What I don't understand is how the potatoes keep getting scorched.  I've been using a bigger crock pot and each time I use it, the veggies get roasted (even on low).  We can't fit the roast in the smaller pot so that's why I've been using the big one.  I guess I'll just have to cook the veggies separately from now on.

Mom showed me how to properly measure Bethany for our patterns today.  She's all over the place on the sizes.  I know to use the one that is biggest but am seriously considering using an adult small.  I think I have some old patterns that are adult smallish and I'm going to put those up to her and see what we think.  We've decided to start buying adult small or extra small at stores (if we purchase any clothing) mostly because the clothing in the older children to teens is anything but modest!  I'm beginning to think this making clothing thing isn't going to be as simple as I thought.  The finding the right fit part anyway.  Deanna has recommended some amish and mennonite patterns and I think I'll look at them anew with the sizes in hand as well.

Its hot so I'm going to sit in front of the fan and do some reading.  More tomorrow......
