Quiet Life Homestead

Is it Friday already?

I just read Camelot Farms (Lynn, I think) and what all they got done yesterday and today.  Makes me realize how much time I've wasted.  I've been working on the love seat, removing the parts that are beyond help or hope.  I've got to go through the hair on cow and goat scraps to see if I have enough of the same colors to put on the arms of the sofa.  I had to remove some fabric from them and also the stuffing, but left enough extra fabric to make it easier to add the scraps to.  I had before planned on just making a cover for the sofa, but after Charlie and I talked it over, we decided to keep what we could, remove only what we have to, and try to fix it that way.  We've had the sofas for about 5-6 years and have had them exposed to three cats and three dogs, thus the denim was not quite appealing scent-wise and I was worried that I'd be able to smell it still even with the covering over it.

Dallas jammed a whole hamper's worth of laundry into the washing machine yesterday.  I had asked him to do his and Cody's clothing.  Come to find out, he put all of it in so that he didn't have to do more than one load.  He knows how to do the laundry and he knows better than to jam it all in there.  Very frustrating!  Cody doesn't know how to do the laundry so I started teaching him today.  We somehow got all the other clothing out of the washer and then put some of it back in to actually get clean.  Cody had thought you put the soap in the cute little opening in the center of the windy thing in the center (I'm sure there's a name for it but can't think of it right now), i.e., the fabric softener place.  I explained the folly of that and how to properly put in soap.  He's now excited about doing the laundry, and more importantly, he realizes that clothing won't get clean if you jam it all in and then put the soap in the fabric softener container.  I need to make sure Dallas was just being lazy and not confused about how to do laundry.  I'm pretty sure it was just laziness as he's been doing his laundry for quite a while now.  I need to teach Bethany as well how to do hers.  You may be wondering why at the ages 14, 13, & almost 12 they don't know how to do the laundry properly.  My poor children have grown up thus far going to the laundry mat - where they are very well versed and experienced.  They just haven't made the mental leap that its the same thing only on a smaller scale, well, and without feeding machines money.

We're still being blessed with mild weather, 73 degrees just before noon.  I spoke with Charlie this morning and he's having a great time and learning a lot.  He's getting to spend time with people who have been in the leather business, mostly leatherworking, for many years.  He's only been in it for about 3 years or so.  He has really come a long way, and being an artist really helps his leatherworking.  I've been praying that God would give him favor in the eyes of his employers (some of whom are with him now) and with his peers.  I hate him being gone - that was the worst part about the Marine Corps - but I see the things he gets to do that those who have been there much longer don't and I know that he is being blessed by God and I praise Him for these blessings!

Larken's doing really well without Daddy being here.  I did accidentally say, "Daddy" earlier today to Bethany with Larken in the room.  She (Larken) went a little haywire and tried looking for him.  It took a while to calm her down.  By the way, we think she may be defective.  When Charlie bought her, he was told that english bulldogs are couch potatoes, very, very lazy dogs.  I know she's only 15 months old, but she is anything but a couch potato - unless you count wedging herself into the couch!  She does what we affectionately call "Hyper-Dog" running throughout the house like a freight train.  She plows down anyone in her way and when she jumps to get onto the sofas, she turns in midair so that she can hit the cushions sideways.  I'll have to try to video tape her sometime and post it if I can ever get the camera from Charlie! :)

Sport update:  The Pistons beat the Bulls, so we're moving on into the conference finals.  The Red Wings lost last night and so are now tied in their series with the Ducks.  The Tigers lost two yesterday against the team of whom we do not speak - sorry, I'm a Yankees fan, maybe then you can figure out who I'm talking about.  Finally, the Yankees aren't doing so well, but it is early in the season.  We should have our pitchers healthy soon and also "The Rocket" will be joining the lineup before too long.  I told the kids that, for me, the reason its exciting to get Pettite and Clemens back is that it feels like family has come home.

Lastly, thank you to gokings13 (Laura?) for the suggestion on the College Alternatives Set from Vision Forum.  I checked it out and have ordered it.  I'm eagerly anticipating its arrival and so is Dallas.  What's funny is that I've been talking to him for months about this sort of thing - earning college credit through CLEP and other tests.  Then we find out about these books and CD which talk not only about that, but take it a step further.  God is so awesome!  Its amazing to see how He brings ideas and other things to you in various forms.  You can tell when its something that He's speaking to you about because everywhere you turn, it comes up.  This is just the latest on the college thing.

Have a great day!

I remember mom's Shih Tzu, Smokey, being a wild fire in the house some days. LOL...boy, that dog could run! Talk about feet-a-flyin!

How is Angela doing (that was her involved in the trailer fire?)I can only imagine what she is going through.
