Friday Happenings and a Few Questions

Tonight Bethany and Cody are going to a birthday party, so it will just be Charlie, Dallas, and I for dinner.  We were given some deer steaks so we'll probably have them with mashed potatoes and corn or mixed veggies.  I'll have to make sure there's a wee bit of deer left over, otherwise we'll have mutiny on our hands with the younger two.  Speaking of deer meat makes me miss my Daddy's deer chili!  Boy, I can almost taste it!

I went through my cookbooks last night and weeded out those that were obviously not needed.  Now I'm kinda stuck!  I've been praying about it, but can't seem to figure out what to do next.  I don't know if I should try to find recipes that match food we have or if I should use the food we have as a buffer until we have the menu made up and then can purchase groceries for it.  Any ideas?  I could probably get a week or two out of what I have in the freezers and pantry.  Maybe I could make the menu for June and have it be things we purchase.  If so, I'll have to figure out how to do it frugally.  I need to do that anyway, silly me!

It's to get up into the upper 80s today so I'm going to try to get all my stuff done this morning and then we can read under, or in front of fans this afternoon.  Here's another question.....Do you think having tile or wood floors instead of carpet would make the room feel a little cooler?  I'm trying to find ways to lower the temperature since we can't afford to have the A/C hooked up yet.

I have laundry to wash and put away, the floors to vacuum (Larken brought a stick in and I have little wood pieces all over the place), breakfast dishes to wash, ongoing purging project (will I EVER be done?), bathroom straightening.......better get started!

On www.allrecipes.com they have an ingredient search. You type in some ingredients you have and it gives you a list of recipes using them. It might be useful, or at least give you some ideas, you can improvise if you don't have all the ingredients called for in the recipe. Happy cooking!
and P.S. tile floors will make it cooler.

*** Thank you for the info and website! I'm going to see if we can find some cheap tile to put down!

I periodically (about every 3 months) try to purge the freezer of the older stuff... so I make my menu according to what I have. It really isn't that hard once you get going... good luck.
