Quiet Life Homestead

Monday Evening

We had a nice cleansing rain this afternoon.  I did have to close two windows since the wind was blowing the rain inside.  We have a chance to have more rain the next few days so maybe I should just move whatever could get messed up away from the window.

The kids and I took Charlie's power cord for his laptop to him this morning and ended up staying for a few hours to pitch in with putting up the order.  I just couldn't justify wasting gas for a there and back trip.  I'd like to move closer to his store but that town's growing and I'm not sure if we could find something decently priced.

I started making a list (actually 4) of what I want to accomplish in different areas: home keeping, handicrafts, homeschooling, personal reading.  Who knows if this will grow into more areas or not, but it feels good to get some things down on paper.  I'm hoping that if I get myself focused on what I want and need to do then I won't get so distracted.  Sounds good anyway!  Once I get the lists completed, I'll post them.  I'd also like to do one of those 101 lists, but don't know yet what I want to put on it.  Maybe these lists will eventually become one.

Charlie's going to be out of town again in a few weeks and I'd like to have him and the boys work on the leatherworking area of the home before he goes.  I sure wish we could go with him (Sheridan, Wyoming), maybe next year!

For dinner tonight we're having baked potatoes, steak with cranberry/sea salt mix on top, and mixed veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots).  One of the things I want to do is get a menu for the month planned and then make up a grocery list for it.  One question though for those of you who do that sort of thing.  Do you plan all three meals for each day or just the dinner?  I'm really wanting to try the grocery shopping once a month thing and am very curious to see how it works out.  First off I need to make an inventory of what all I have in the freezers, fridge, and pantry.

Lastly, we watched ABC's nightly news - something we never do.  We usually don't have the television on but were checking the weather.  Anyway, they had a report about raw milk and how its illegal to sell, dangerous to drink, etc.  I've heard so much of the benefits of raw milk that we've been trying to find a local source here.  The report reminded me of some of the things ya'll have posted about the government trying to dictate what you do with your homesteads.

I need to get the food on the table.  Have a great night!
