Friday Happenings & A Bit of Soap Box Talk, Sorry

Charlie and I stayed up really late last night (or should I say this morning).  He had to get his sales flier typed up and I was keeping him company.  I wanted to sleep in a wee bit but heard Dallas and so I got up.  I can't sleep when the kids are up, even at their ages.  I'm not sure why I can't, I think it must be a Mom thing.

I'm getting very close to being finished on the quilt - well, with taking out those stitches.  I had been having a really hard time with it, my eyes would get tired pretty fast.  I prayed to God and asked Him to strengthen my eyes so that I may complete it and then get on to other things.  He has blessed me so much!  I hope to finish taking the stitches out today and then can sew the binding on.  I haven't decided if I will quilt the border or not.  I think for now I'll leave it.

A few weeks ago I purchased some small chickens at Sam's.  Today two of them will find their way into the crock pot.  I think I may try using some of the sauce stuff I purchased at the kitchen store that went out of business in February.  There's just something about food cooking in a crock pot during the day.  It really feels homey.  I love it!

Taking the advice of those who wrote comments on the reupholstering, I'm not gonna do it.  I'm going to work on making some kind of covering for the sofa.  I may still take the two large pillow things that are attached on the backs (tops) of each sofa off.  I can use the stuffing inside and make pillows with them.  Still haven't decided on that but need to soon because the dog has almost totally separated one or two of them.

Rellamom's going to be doing a little study thing over on her blog regarding homemaking, homesteading, etc.  I'm so looking forward to it!  I tried keeping up with Peggy's but since it was on another site, I kept forgetting and ended up dropping out altogether.  I need all the help and encouragement I can get!  None of my grandmothers (nor my mother either) were keepers of the home.  One of my grandmothers did get into cooking bigtime including canning, but that's as close as it got.  I have some good books such as Home Comforts and need to find time to read them.  Maybe I should list all the things I need to do, to work on, etc., and then schedule the time to get each done.  I'm going to try to take a load of stuff to donate today.  I've been putting it off because of some inconvenient road work in this area, but it really needs to go soon.

Before I forget, Glenn Beck is going to have a global warning special on his show (CNN Headline News 7, 9, & midnight, I think) this upcoming Wednesday.  He's saying that he isn't presenting this as the answer, he's just trying to get the other side's message out.  If you're interested in watching it and need more info, go to www.glennbeck.com .  We will be listening to it on our XM as we don't have cable.  Also tonight I believe he's going to replay his interview with Tim LaHaye, Jerry Jenkins, and the author of Epicenter (can't remember his name).  I think the interview stuff will be on the television, but it could be on his radio show.  I'm not 100% sure.  I encourage all who are interested to watch the special next week.  Glenn can be a little on the edge, but there are too many of us that accept without question whatever some politician or movie star tells us.  We need to hear both sides of an issue.  I'd also recommend Michael Crichton's State of Fear, although it has some disturbing things happen in the end of the book.  We must be educated whether it be about global warming, the war, or other happenings in the world.  This info cannot come only from the hollywood elite, we must take the time and do the research.  Find reputable sources.  The Bible says we must be wise as serpents but harmless as doves.  I think this is one issue where we need to do just that.  Do I want my only information to come from someone who first of all does not acknowledge that there is a Creator?  That there is a God?  The Bible says that the fool says in his heart there is no God.  I'm not going to get my information from fools, and I encourage you to not as well.

Okay, off my soapbox and on to the quadrillion and a half other things to do!  :)

Crock pots and Glenn Beck

{ 08:36, Friday, April 27, 2007 } { Posted by mamaof2andtwins }
I must agree with you that having something cooking away all day in the crockpot is very homey. It also is very comforting to me to know that I have planned well and that I won't be scambling around at 4 PM.
My husband and I stumbled upon Glenn Beck's cable show about a month or so ago. We really enjoy it and watch it just about every night.
Blessings to you.
Jennie
