Quiet Life Homestead

My Weekend

We had a good visit with Mom, although we never got around to sewing.  She's going to make kitty tents and Dallas cut the pvc pipes for it, for her.

Saturday we got the yard weed-eated (I know, not properly spoken), and the bulbs and seedlings in the ground.  One of Bethany's friends saw us working outside and came over to help.  She seemed amazed that we all work on things together. :)  Mom's letting us borrow her rake, so this week we're going to rake up all the pecans and bring them inside to sort.  I've never made a homemade pecan pie, only frozen ones.  It should be a fun experience!

Saturday around noon Mom, the kids, and I left and headed north to the zoo.  Little did I know that it was earth day and they were having some sort of promotion at the zoo.  The place was packed!  Actually, it was kinda funny to see people with "green" stickers parking on the grass.  Don't get me wrong, I think we should be good stewards of the earth that God has given us, its when people go overboard that makes me shake my head.  Anyway, we decided to skip the zoo (and the masses) and drove a little further (its still in Mohawk Park) to the Oxley Nature Center.  This is an awesome place that has trails all through the forest and prairie and by a couple of ponds.  We haven't been there in a while, but used to go all the time.  Silly me, forgot to bring repellant and we all ended up with ticks everywhere.  So now I'm itching and constantly thinking I've got a tick on me.  I think I'll have to put repellant in the trunk of my car and just keep it in there for spontaneous trips.  I do the same thing with sunscreen and its about time to put that in the car (I don't keep it in there in the winter), so I can add the repellant while I'm at it.

The kids have their assignment sheets for the week and are in the "playroom" doing their schoolwork while listening to Assassins on CD.  We had started years ago reading the Left Behind books to the kids, but I loaned the books to someone, and never got them back.  I requested the books on CD from the library so the kids can listen to them while they're doing other things.  Okay, I'm lazy and didn't want to read them to the kids.  I love the books, but I've got so much that I need to get done.  This way I'm killing two birds with one stone: they're doing what they need to be doing & they're listening to something other than music.  Nothing wrong with music (well, some types anyway), but this is much better.

We're going to have rain tomorrow!  We have a tiny chance today for some, but the storms tomorrow are a "sure thing."  Some might be severe and some might be tornadic.  My little bulbs and seedlings could really use the rain, tornadoes, not so much!

I still can't get this computer's volume to get any louder - its on the loudest setting and you can barely hear it.  Charlie's going to bring some other speakers home today and hopefully that will work because I really want to listen to the cottage industry messages from Wisdom Farms and also my Charity Ministries messages.  This computer is the only MP3 I have so its the only thing I can listen on. :(  I requested a sample pack of periodicals from Rod and Staff and we're going to pour over them this week to see if there are any we want to subscribe to.  I'm really enjoying the Charity Ministries newsletter, The Remnant, I'm being challenged and learning, both good things!
