"Royalty?" and the mouse hunt

Holly (our cat) caught a mouse today.  Bethany got it from here while it was STILL ALIVE, I finally got the boys to get it (from off the floor, out from under a table where it fell) and take it outside.  I just spoke to Charlie and he had me let it out of the trash can because there are owls and hawks that would just love a tasty treat.  Poor thing has a hurt leg and looks cold, but I don't want it in my house.  I reminded the kids that they are to wait until mice are dead before taking them from the cat.  We want to encourage her to catch them.  Looks like I'm going to have to buy or make some cat treats to keep on hand just in case she gets more.

I've been trying to decide which book to begin reading aloud to the kids.  I usually pick a list book, and probably will again.  After finishing Animal Farm, though, I don't want anything "heavy."  I may read Christy or Caddie Woodlawn, maybe Robin Hood, I haven't decided.

The kids are taking a nap (I guess the mouse-chasing made them tired), so I have a little peace right now.  I had to break down and turn the heat back on so they will probably wake up soon.  I think I'll make a snack and then get into the patterns.
