Quiet Life Homestead | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
SaturdayI'm still working on inputing the kids schoolwork into the computer. Silly me didn't pay attention to the dates and scheduled schoolwork for July 4! Now I have to decide if we'll be doing schoolwork that day or if I want to go back and change all that. I'll leave it for now and decide later on, once it gets closer. Summer feels so far away right now. The temperature is 37 outside. We did get snow flurries yesterday but no accumulation. I had to pick up some more lye and castile soap yesterday. The only local place I've found them is at Cracker Barrel. The lye soap was around $5 and the castlie was 99 cents. I'm not sure if the prices are good or not (mostly the lye soap) but when its the only local place.......I'm sure I could do without the castile soap, but we use the lye soap for so many things: washing faces for acne, poison ivy, getting the Oklahoma red clay out of clothing, etc. I need to run to the grocery store today to buy a few things to get us through this next week. Then I plan on working on my quilt for a while and then back on task with the typing. I really need to get it done, at least the first week of their stuff, so maybe I'll make myself do it first. I really need to plan out my trips into town better so I'm not running all over the place. We used to have a specific day when we'd do things like grocery shop, library visit, etc., and I think it would be good to do again. Another thing we used to do and are talking about doing again is cashing Charlie's checks and separating the money into different containers for different bills. We did this years ago and it really helped us stay on track. Also, we could see where the money was going and if we had extra or not. We're a cash only family (well, we do use debit cards that take the money out of our account) and that has hurt our credit - we have none since we don't use credit cards or take out loans. That makes it very difficult to try to get a loan to buy a house (we found this out last year) but since we've inherited this place it doesn't seem so urgent. For some reason the house payment has gone from just under $500 to $625 per month. That plus lot rent makes it to where we're paying more than we did for an apartment. We want to make extra payments to get the home paid for but it's a struggle right now making our monthly payment. We're seeking God's direction and help on this and would appreciate prayers. This mobile home has four bedrooms and three baths and we could (and have) live in a much smaller place. I'm wondering if we should sell it and try to buy some place that's smaller and CHEAPER. The loan company won't even tell us how much we owe, so we have no idea where we stand. Prayers and advice appreciated, Vicki
