Quiet Life Homestead

Monday Evening

I got lots done, just not what I had planned to do.  Bethany made a skirt from her jeans and it didn't come out quite right so we'll work on fixing it tomorrow, maybe.  I do really like how it looks and am going to have to make one for myself.

Charlie and the kids are watching Eragon.  Its way too sci-fi for me.  I think I lasted about 30 minutes.  They seem to like it a lot.  We won't be purchasing it but I do think its pretty cool that a homeschooler wrote it.  We rented it to show the kids what can be done.  We heard an interview of the author by Glenn Beck and decided then and there to watch it once.

I enjoy reading to the kids and the books we normally choose are on our list books list.  Right now I'm reading Animal Farm to them.  I think its an important book but was a little worried they might not get or understand all the comparisons and back story.  I sure was wrong!  They can pick out socialist and communist thinking quite easily and how one leads to the other.  They are also seeing the consequences of those schools of thought.  Everywhere you look, especially in the media, you find socialist and liberal viewpoints.  We stopped watching television news a year or so ago when it just became so blatantly obvious.  I don't want to be spoonfed thoughts, I want to get information so that I may make my own decisions.  We listen to talk radio (Michael DelGiorno & Glenn Beck mostly) and for news we listen on our XM to Fox News.  I don't listen to Rush anymore since the station that plays his broadcast is only a friend in disguise.  I so long for him to switch stations as he has so much to offer.  What's the point to my ramblings?  I believe our choices have taught our children to think for themselves.  We don't agree with everything we hear, nor should we.  Just because it is on television, the internet, radio, newspapers, etc., doesn't make it fact.  You must research, you must seek, there is no unbiased anything out in the world.  Everyone has a viewpoint, a worldview, and what they see and say and write, etc., reflects that viewpoint.  I have the Quine's Starting Points worldview curriculum.  We haven't begun using it yet, but in this day and age I believe it is needed.  Please don't just accept anything without checking it out for yourself.  I have a friend who said I shouldn't listen to Fox News because they are biased.  Yet that same friend did not notice that CNN, ABC, CBS, etc., are just as biased, only in the other direction!  We must be mindful of this and not be deceived.

We got confirmation tonight that inventory at Charlie's store needs to be finished by Saturday.  I'm not sure if we're going to go help or not.  What we normally do is help on Friday and Saturday.  I hope that's what we do this time as well.  At least here he has four employees to assist.  We may not have to count at all.  I was telling them today that if they'd just sell everything then there wouldn't be anything to count! :)

I'm still waiting on Cody's math and english to arrive.  I forgot to ask how long it takes but can probably get an idea by looking at the catalog.  I do remember there was something about it in there somewhere.  I'd also like to get some of their non homeschool items.  I think I may go through it and make out a wish list.

I'm slowly making my way through Nourishing Traditions, still in the introduction, and I read something that kinda bothered me.  Did you know that people who eat a low-fat vegetarian diet are in danger of something called leaky gut syndrome?  That kinda freaks me out!  We aren't vegetarians here in this household, but I do have some great friends who are and I'm going to let them know about this so they can be aware.

Lastly, speaking of food, I made up the dinner menu for today through Saturday.  Monday - beef soup & cornbread.  Tuesday - bean & cheese burritos with chili and cheese.  Wednesday - hamburger meat with cheddar and broccoli rice.  Thursday - BBQ ribs & potatoes.  Friday - chicken & dressing.  Saturday - spaghetti.

The movie is almost over so I have to get ready to return it to the video store.  More tomorrow.

I knew there was a reason I love my meat.LOL I agree whole heartedly with you about our media spoon feeding us liberalism. I know that Fox News swings right but the rest swing left. We do watch some and I emphasize some Fox News. However, lately all that has been on it is Anna Nicole Smith and I just could careless about her. I know that sounds harsh but with so many other things going on in the world I don't want to hear about her!! We too are trying to give our children the tools to make their own decisions.
Blessings,
Trixi
