Larken Update, Part 2Ok, this post may be a bit grody so if you have a weak constitution, please move on and don't read. So, you know, if you've been reading, that Larken (our 1yr old english bulldog) has a staph infection and is on antibiotics. I've been noticing an owie on her tummy (looks kinda like an absess - sorry for the spelling). Over the past few days it has gotten bigger, blacker, and redder. Today the kids and I were going to take a nap, mostly so Larken would settle down and get some rest. She went tinkle on Dallas' bed and he noticed all this blood coming out. I called Charlie and told him he needed to come home RIGHT AWAY as the dog was peeing blood. The vet is only a wee bit away (a block or two) so the kids and I walked her and would meet Charlie there, as it would be a 30 minute drive for him. First of all, the antibiotics aren't working quite as well as the doctor wanted (you'll find out why in a minute) so he's put her on a second type of antibiotics. By the way, did I mention that our only charge was the $16 for the meds? The absess turns out to be a brown recluse bite! Ok, you must know that I'm deathly afraid of spiders! I can handle anything else, but just the thought of them gets me jumpy. The blood was from the breaking of the blister type absess that has grown from where she was bitten. Right now there is an hole about the size of a dime in her tummy - lower abdomen, close to her "privacy." I've been told by many today that the hole will get MUCH BIGGER! I'm not sure right now how that will affect her in regards to having puppies, we just need to get her healthy. Oh, and by the way, we found out that she's also going through a false pregnancy! Can anything else be going on with this poor, sweet little girl? I didn't know there was such a thing as a false pregnancy, especially since she hasn't been around any boy dogs. If she had, we'd know since we don't let her outside by herself, we always have the leash on her if she's outside since we don't have a fence. Plus her breed is one of the most stolen breeds, we're not taking any chances! I need to go now and give her some food so she can take her medicine. Please pray for her if she comes to mind. I know there are lots of people who don't pray for animals, and that's fine. If you do, then keep her in your prayers, please.
