Quiet Life Homestead

I just realized that for all the times I've been on homestead blogger today, I hadn't posted an entry!  Charlie hurt his back yesterday and so I had to drive him to work this morning.  We got a late start and by the time the kids and I started homeschooling, it was 2pm.  We got finished by 4, just in time to leave to pick Charlie up from work!

Melissa and I have been writing each other back and forth regarding homeschooling in high school and she has encouraged me to start reading up on high school credits.  I have two books about homeschooling during high school and I've just begun reading the first, Homeschooling High School.  I'll let you know what I learn.  I didn't realize that we could go ahead and teach high school subjects, or at least cover those items and give credit for them.  Duh!

Larken is continuing to do much better.  According to the vet, her condition is very common in younger dogs and is caused by allergens.  He said that although it is a staph infection, it isn't life threatening like the other kind of staph infections.  Also it isn't contageous to either the cat or us.  Anyway, she's doing really well, even though she's lost a few pounds.  The cat, Holly, is really enjoying it right now, because although Larken is running around and playing, she doesn't have any interest in playing with the cat.

With the late start we had I didn't get anything done that I wanted to.  I didn't even get the beans on in time.  I'll cook them tomorrow.  So tonight we're having breaded boneless skinless chicken, freedom fries, and corn.

I still have lots of things I want to get done before Staci and the kids come up next week.  I'll have to get hopping if I'm to get them done!  Also, she called and didn't know what she's going to bring to work on.  That got me thinking....what am I going to work on?  I have lots of different quilt and project sacks, I know that it isn't good to keep material in Walmart sacks, but I do.  I have them labeled and can consult the list to see what the project is and what I need to buy and to do to complete it.  I'll take some pictures when they're here and post them of what we're doing.

While I'm typing this, I'm being entertained with the sounds of four people tooling leather.  To some it may be a distraction, but I'm so used to it, I sometimes fall asleep listening to Charlie doing it.  Dallas is going to teach Staci and the kids how to tool leather while they're here as well.  I think they will like it.

I'd better go and make some iced tea for dinner.  Have a great night.

Vicki
