Sunday NightA quick update on the day's activities and tomorrow's plans. Charlie and the boys got their buffalo projects traced, cut (swivel knife into the leather), embossed, and filled. For some reason the plugs they made aren't acting right, they're crumbly instead of tacky. Charlie said if it doesn't work, they'll just try again tomorrow. We're taking some pictures as they are going along and will post those when they are finished. The kids are in bed since they can't do any more to their projects until they dry. Bethany has been working on a leather box. Charlie's making one as well, so if she has any questions or runs into any problems, he can help. I've been working on my latest crochet afghan and also on removing the stitches in my quilt. My eyes keep getting tired with the quilt, so I guess I'm really starting to get old. I don't wear glasses, but maybe I'm getting where I should. For dinner tonight, we had leftover turkey and I made mashed potatoes, green beans, and cranberry sauce to go with it. Oh yea, and gravy. It was really good although I forgot I had the turkey in the oven reheating and it got a bit dry, hence the gravy! For dinner tomorrow, I'm going to make ham and beans. We'll also have cornbread if Charlie remembers to pick up eggs on the way home from work. I'm not yet sure what the rest of the week's menu looks like. Wednesday we're having dinner at Charlie's parent's house, salad, rolls, macaroni and cheese. Two meals down, five to go! We were going to be starting the Bradley's Biblical Insights into Child Training for our Sunday home church, but I'm learning so much from the Charity Ministries (thanks again for suggesting them Deanna at Abundant Blessings!) that we may listen to them. I have never felt more challenged than I do by the messages on The Godly Home. Like I said to you before, you may not be my Bible, pastor, etc., but you are a mentor to me and I can't thank you enough for the guidance you've given me and for introducing me to Charity Ministries! Bethany has almost finished another list book. She's really moving along nicely in her studies. As this week is the first with the new english books, I've got a little more planning to do. My problem is that I like to overplan, well, it's not that I like to, I just do it. Also, I'm trying to avoid adding too much to our homeschool. I like it being simple, so we're going to do things bit by bit. It seems like there's so much the kids need to learn, so much I want to teach them, but I need to remember that there's only so much time in a day and that we have a few years yet to cover things. We still have much decluttering to do. Will it never end? I wish we could get a big dumpster here to toss stuff out into, but, alas, small town trash doesn't have that. Actually, the town does, but the area we are in is picked up by other people and they don't. Dallas, my history (at least war) nut, had me check on the new movie 300 because he really wants to see it. I looked at www.pluggedinonline.com and from what they say it is REALLY bad! We don't go to the movies very often, I think the last was Night at the Museum, but we constantly check movies on the above site since I trust them and have learned from experience to see what the movie contains before going to it. Dallas was very upset about the movie! It was the same way with Alexander and Troy. I told him that it's another example of how Hollywood doesn't live by the same values as us, and how they really aren't our friends. We shouldn't be yoked to unbelievers in marriage, and I feel its the same way with our entertainment. Now, does this mean I'm getting rid of all my DVDs and never watching another television show? Probably not, the heart is willing, but the flesh is weak in my case! But we're working on it. We've gotten rid of most of our cd collection, I think mostly what we have now are classical music and big band. We do still have a little bit of christian music - Third Day, Sheila Walsh, and Women of Faith, maybe a little Newsboys. You'd be amazed at how bare our cd shelves look! I think I'm going to make a list of all the books I've got that I need to get read. They are mostly Christian living type books with a little homeschool and parenting books as well. I don't seem to read many homeschool books anymore as I'm pretty much set in what we're doing. Anytime I have questions, I pray and then ask you all here. I also have four homesteading books that I want to get into. Right now I'm reading Hal Lindsey's Planet Earth 2000 A.D. Someone recommended it and I find its interesting reading. Sometimes I want to know what's going on in the world, whereas others I get so overwhelmed that I want to hide from it all. It's ten o'clock now, so I'd better get some sleep.
