Quiet Life Homestead | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Worky Work Busy BeeThat's what we call it when we've been doing lots of things around here. We saw it on a commercial and it just stuck. Yesterday I got all the homeschool books (except for our list books) out of the bookshelves and put them in stacks in the living room by subject. Then I cleaned the shelves and went through a few homeschool odds and ends boxes that I've needed to go through for a while. The area looks really good. Also by there is the computer desk area and I've almost got it done as well. All the while, the books are in stacks in the living room. I had kinda forgot about them. My poor hubby walked in the house last night and declared, "Ah! The library blew up in our house!" He was just joking but I felt bad that I had forgotten it. It's not like the living room is in a separate part of the house....it's the same room as where I was working. I'll work on it today. What I'm doing is this (by the way, I know there has to be a quicker, more efficient way to do it, this is just the way that works for me) on notebook paper I write the subject on the top with the books for that subject listed below. For some reason that really helps get my creative juices flowing and I'm able to see overlaps, gaps, and such like. I try to do this a few times a year just to make sure everything we have we still want/need and also to remind me what we do have and that maybe we should spend a little time studying it. Otherwise we need to get rid of it. I include games, puzzles, flash cards, cds, movies, whatever fits that subject and is educational. The kids tried to pawn off Abbott & Costello's Africa Screams as geography! Also on the homefront, the turkey still isn't thawed. I have to decide if I want to wait another day or try to cold bath it. I love turkey and could eat it almost every day. I'd have to switch back and forth with mexican food. My kids accuse me of drinking the salsa on the few times we get to eat out (El Chico). They just don't understand their poor mama. When we lived in Michigan, there were only two mexican restaurants we could find (I'm talking TexMex), I've been to Mexico and lived in Panama and don't care much for the really authentic stuff. When my sister was pregnant with Nicole, her oldest, I used to make her eat mexican food almost everyday. No wonder Cole's hair is red! My poor hubby has to listen to the Yanks today because the Tigers aren't playing. He said he'd struggle through it. I think he's a closet Yankees fan, just give him time and he'll come around! So, anyway, lots to do today. I need to make some pancakes and wake the kids so we can get on with our day. While mom's in here, they will be working in their rooms, "Honestly mom." We'll see how that works out. Sorry this entry has been so scatter-brained today. Maybe I should have titled it flibberdegibbit. Oh, and thanks for all the advice on the comforter! I'm going to try two of them, I don't have the heart yet to do what Maa advised. I pray I won't have to. I'll let you know how it comes out!
