I'm Inspired Again
I just read quiverfull acres entry. I had asked her a few questions about her teenagers and how she homeschooled them. Her answers have inspired me so much! It's almost like a breath of fresh air! Way too many exclamation marks, I know!!!! I had been ready to retire for the night, but now I have a burst of energy. I'm going to be looking at our homeschool extras (text books, living books, foreign language, etc) with a different eye. I've been wanting to go through them and once again weed some out, but now I have a little more inspiration.
Also refreshing was Maa's (Homestead Girls) comment, in which she spoke about what colleges want and what they deem important. I hadn't realized that there were places where you don't have to give a diploma to for entry into their programs. We'll keep our eyes opened, but it's nice to know that there are many options.
When God closes one door, He opens a window!

I am soo glad that you got a good feeling from my coment.
Yes, it is very true that some colleges(many around here) don't need a high school diploma. They will ask for a college entrance test, that they may give or another type of test score.
My girls tell me that they want to be stay at home moms and don't want a career. Yes, they do want to get a job and work till they do have children but not a career. They think they want to be registerd nurses.
Here in our state at Ivy Tech they have a two year nurses program to become an RN. All that is required is a note from a parent stating that the student has completed high school. No diploma,no transcript, no records needed. I know this because I talked to all of the people in charge of these things at Ivy Tech. At the end of the nursing program they will need a GED or a high school diploma to take the state board exam. Well, I know they can take the GED exam and do well so I just don't worry anymore.
If there is something that our children want to do in life then they will do it as long as they are living the Christian life that God calls them to live.
I do think it is very important to use a good math curriculim, like Saxon, and stick to it. Math and grammer are two things that I want my children to learn and learn well.Every thing else I think can be learned from every day living.
Let's enjoy this time with our children and not be burdend with the worry of weather they are learning enough.
