Wednesday Homeschool and HappeningsWe had snow flurries earlier this morning. I hate to admit it, but I'm ready for spring. I know I should be enjoying what God has given us weather-wise. They just had a report on Fox News (XM version) that said in upstate New York they've had 13 feet of snow and might get three more today. I think I'll stop complaining and start praying for the people who are living there. We took a moment and discussed all that would entail (living with 13' of snow) and how difficult it would be to do anything because you couldn't get out if you needed to. Bethany finished Level 3 of Making Math Meaningful today! We were looking through Level 4 and getting excited about what she'll be doing in it. I also have Level 5 and need to decide after that if I'll order Level 6 or just move her back into Bob Jones math. I praise God for leading us to using this curriculum for Beth. She is understanding math so much better now! Spelling Power is also really starting to show its worth with all three of the kids. I had never really pushed spelling - honestly because I didn't see the point of doing it like we did in public school growing up. Spelling Power changed all that, we don't give out words on Monday and test on Friday. I love their approach MUCH better! Also, reading is going along great. I found a good way to avoid at least some of the offensive junk on television while watching a show. We can watch any of our shows online beginning the day after they are shown on the television. We did that with one to see how it worked and we had to sit through two commercials and two movie previews. We'll make sure that it is possible to do with each of our shows and then, if so, we can just do that instead of having to sit through all the commercials and the previews for other, more offensive shows. Also, we're going to work on weeding out which shows we watch. We have 5 shows we watch regularly (NCIS, The Unit, Criminal Minds, LOST, & CSI). I don't allow the children to watch Criminal Minds or CSI anymore, although in the beginning we did. Jericho is getting ready to begin again and we did enjoy that show so we might check it out again. But here's the thing, God's wanting us to be obedient to Him. In His Word, it lays out things to cling to and things to avoid. If we apply these to the above shows, as we should, NCIS, The Unit, LOST, CSI, and Jericho each have either pre-marital relations or adultery, all of them have violence - see what I'm saying? And the whole, "It isn't good for the kids, so I'll just have them go into the other room" thing doesn't really cut it. I'm going to pray about it and discuss it with Charlie, but I'm thinking that we should drop all of them and just keep one television for movie DVDs (which I also need to go through with the same measuring stick) and leatherworking DVDs. Food for thought, Vicki { Post a Comment } { Last Page } { Page 236 of 288 } { Next Page } |
