Winter Storm Prep

I heard those awful words on the radio this morning: Winter Storm Warning!  Is it just me or does anyone else despise those words?  I know it is God's plan, its just that here in Oklahoma Winter Storm Warning 9 times out of 10 means ICE!  We lived in Michigan for a little over a year (enough for two winters) before Charlie's bosses moved us back to Oklahoma.  We had such WONDERFUL snow!  I loved it   But, growing up in Oklahoma, I knew from experience that winter means ice not snow.  Well, we did have snow earlier this season...maybe it was a fluke!  Honestly, I think that God took pity on me and gave us the snow as a gift.

I told the kids we need to do some winter prep today.  I'm not sure exactly where to begin.  I've finished the window coverings, they aren't as warm as they should be.  I don't have enough batting to quilt them yet, but just having them up helps.  I'm washing clothing and blankets today also I hope to get some work done on the quilt for our bed.  My Mom gave me some old yarn she had and I've been crocheting an afghan with some of it. 

What I really wish we could do is put in either a fireplace or wood stove.  I know you can have fireplaces in mobile homes because my Mom has one, so does a wonderful family we know.  Of course, their homes came with the fireplaces.  It gives me something to research. 

So what do you do when you have bad weather coming?  We don't have any livestock so that's one less thing to worry about.  To tell the truth, I'd LOVE to have the livestock!

The turkey isn't thawed out enough so I guess I'm not making it today.  I made beans yesterday but there isn't enough left over for dinner tonight.  Actually, I can make rice and serve the beans on it!
