Belle's Challenge - Garden Ideas

I didn't know if what I posted earlier would count, but when I read about the challenge I remembered something my uncle taught me.  As soon as he planted his garden, he would always put Coke and Dr. Pepper cans on the fence near the tomato plants.  He said that any birds who might be inclined to eat his tomatoes would be attracted to the colors on the cans and when they flew in to try to eat them, all they would find was tin.  We tried this when we had our garden before and didn't have a single bird snatching tomatoes (although our two cocker spaniels kept harvesting them for themselves).  Once the cans started fading, we replaced them with new ones.

Also, my step-grandmother plants geraniums along the outside of the garden to keep out some kind of pests, I think slugs but am not sure.  If anyone knows, tell me, please.  Also, thank you to everyone who has written me.  I'm not sure how to reply otherwise I'd do it "in person."

I think I will give this a try since we have lots of birds in our garden. Thanks for the tip and thanks for taking part in the challenge. I am looking foward to learning some new things this week.
