Gluten Free breakfast foods
Posted in Links
|
A little background information: The past 2 times that we have gone to the grocery store to get groceries, they have been totally sold out of the only brand of gluten free cereal that they carry!!!!!!!!! This has been really annoying, I mean any other time that we have gone in there they have had one row with maybe 1 or 2 boxes taken from it - so it may not be a really big mover, but come on!!!!! - people are buying this product! We are hoping that it does come back, the sign on the shelf is still there, so maybe there is hope.
Anyway, in our quest to find some Gluten Free cereal for Josh, we went to the city and bought him a teeny, tiny box of Gluten Free Granola. This tiny box is only 365g and it cost us over $6.00 after G.S.T was added on!!!!!!!
Now, after we paid that price, I got to thinking that there must be some recipes for Gluten Free Granola floating around on the Internet. So, this morning, before the kids were up, I went searching and sure enough I found 2 recipes that sound pretty doable. I found the first recipe here (you need to scroll down to find it), and the second recipe came from here. I think I am going to be trying out the second on first and when I do, I'll let you know how Josh likes it - a lot of the ingredients in the second on I already have on hand, so that's why I'm going with it first.
If you have any other tips or recipes for Gluten Free breakfast recipes, please feel free to share them with me - I am always on the look out for new recipes that will make being G.F. easier for Josh. Thanks.

Thursday Morning Ramblings

Wow, I am so happy to be blogging again, I was going into some serious withdrawals, lol. The past couple of days something would happen and I would think 'Oh, I should put that in my blog' and then I would remember that I couldn't and then I would forget about it (should have written it down, lol). Oh, well.
The school desks that we got for the kids are a huge success. Charlotte loves that she now has a place to sit and color or do homework if she has any and Josh loves that Charlotte now has a place to color and do her homework, lol. She was constantly using his desk (before we got one for each of them) and leaving it a mess when she was done - not sure if that was because she wanted to annoy her brother or she just had more pressing things to do than clean up after herself.
I found a really neat website for Gluten Free recipes (since Josh has been put on a Gluten Free diet I have been constantly on the look out for Gluten Free recipes). Here is the link for them: http://www.madebymona.com/Recipes/Index.asp
Well, I better go and get some things accomplished, we are going out this afternoon and Josh needs to get his schoolwork done before we go. Oh, and then tonight we go and get a 'new to us' couch. I am very excited about this because we have been wanting another couch to put in the family room. I am a member of our local Freecycle group and one was offered on it (actually quite a few have been offered on it lately) and I was chosen to receive this one. The lady that we are getting it from said that it is 7 feet long - so that should allow all four of us to sit on it during our Friday night movie nights. Okay, off to take on the day. TTFN

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
