A couple of Saturday's ago Don, the kids and I all went to the Space & Science Center with the Scouts - it was a pretty good day. Yesterday the kids were discussing their favourite activities from there and the one that really stood out was a mind game. Now, I can't quite remember the name of it - however, the idea behind it is this: you (and your opponent) put a head band on, set the ball in the middle of the "field", then relax your mind - the person that can relax the most actually makes the ball move towards their opponents side of the "field". Josh challenged me to this and I couldn't even get that ball moving, lol. Don and Charlotte were really evenly matched in this game - I guess I'm the only one in our family that doesn't know how to relax, lol.
This past weekend, we were finally home long enough to get our garden in - it seems like we have been on the go quite a bit this past while .... hopefully life will begin to take a bit of a slower pace. Maybe that will happen this weekend when we go camping - Don has Friday off and I have Saturday off, so what better time to load up the kids, us and the dog and head out.
Today I had Charlotte add some more bird seed to the feeder - we weren't going to fill it up over the summer months because there is actually a lot of food around for the birds. However, we have been seeing some new birds at the empty feeder and I felt sorry for them, lol, so I sent Charlotte out to add more to it. I wonder how many new birds we'll see there?
Tonight we are taking the kids to go see Night At The Museum 2, we all really enjoyed the first one .... and since this is cheap night at the Theater, well we couldn't really pass it up. I found a really great link to check out the ratings on movies - it breaks it down into 3 categories (sex & nudity, violence & gore, profanity), it then gives a break down of why the movie rated each number in each category - for example: Night At The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian rated 2 for sex & nudity, 3 for violence & gore and 1 for profanity. Here is the link if you would like to check this site out: http://www.kids-in-mind.com/
A little background information: The past 2 times that we have gone to the grocery store to get groceries, they have been totally sold out of the only brand of gluten free cereal that they carry!!!!!!!!! This has been really annoying, I mean any other time that we have gone in there they have had one row with maybe 1 or 2 boxes taken from it - so it may not be a really big mover, but come on!!!!! - people are buying this product! We are hoping that it does come back, the sign on the shelf is still there, so maybe there is hope.
Anyway, in our quest to find some Gluten Free cereal for Josh, we went to the city and bought him a teeny, tiny box of Gluten Free Granola. This tiny box is only 365g and it cost us over $6.00 after G.S.T was added on!!!!!!!
Now, after we paid that price, I got to thinking that there must be some recipes for Gluten Free Granola floating around on the Internet. So, this morning, before the kids were up, I went searching and sure enough I found 2 recipes that sound pretty doable. I found the first recipe here (you need to scroll down to find it), and the second recipe came from here. I think I am going to be trying out the second on first and when I do, I'll let you know how Josh likes it - a lot of the ingredients in the second on I already have on hand, so that's why I'm going with it first.
If you have any other tips or recipes for Gluten Free breakfast recipes, please feel free to share them with me - I am always on the look out for new recipes that will make being G.F. easier for Josh. Thanks.
Wow, I am so happy to be blogging again, I was going into some serious withdrawals, lol. The past couple of days something would happen and I would think 'Oh, I should put that in my blog' and then I would remember that I couldn't and then I would forget about it (should have written it down, lol). Oh, well.
The school desks that we got for the kids are a huge success. Charlotte loves that she now has a place to sit and color or do homework if she has any and Josh loves that Charlotte now has a place to color and do her homework, lol. She was constantly using his desk (before we got one for each of them) and leaving it a mess when she was done - not sure if that was because she wanted to annoy her brother or she just had more pressing things to do than clean up after herself.
I found a really neat website for Gluten Free recipes (since Josh has been put on a Gluten Free diet I have been constantly on the look out for Gluten Free recipes). Here is the link for them: http://www.madebymona.com/Recipes/Index.asp
Well, I better go and get some things accomplished, we are going out this afternoon and Josh needs to get his schoolwork done before we go. Oh, and then tonight we go and get a 'new to us' couch. I am very excited about this because we have been wanting another couch to put in the family room. I am a member of our local Freecycle group and one was offered on it (actually quite a few have been offered on it lately) and I was chosen to receive this one. The lady that we are getting it from said that it is 7 feet long - so that should allow all four of us to sit on it during our Friday night movie nights. Okay, off to take on the day. TTFN
