Yesterday was such a fantastic day, it was very low-key (I really like days like that). Once everyone was up (I was the first one up and managed to get some knitting done while the house was quiet), I was thoroughly spoiled by Don and the kids. Charlotte gave me a gold necklace pendant that has a cross, praying hands and a Bible on it. Josh gave me a gold box link chain to go with the pendant and Don gave me a CD, it is the Famous Last Words CD by Hedley (it is the one with Never Too Late on it - I really, really like that song).
After gifts, lol, Don made a fantastic brunch style meal - it was soooooo delicious, then we phoned our Moms. After getting off the phone with them, we headed into a neighbouring town - we wanted to get a rototiller so we could get the garden worked up. We found one, headed back home and Don got the whole garden worked up (it is now totally ready to plant), Charlotte spent the afternoon outside playing with some toy dragons, Josh cleaned the toy/school room then the bathroom and finally went outside to play. I was able to spend some quiet time knitting (even the dog was outside). It truly was a wonderful day yesterday.
Last night I was reading from a book, about scheduling in homeschooling - some people follow a semester system, some a quarterly system and some a trimester system. Don and I were discussing it and trying to figure out if we should/needed to change how we are currently scheduling our schooling - once I get my thoughts more organized on this topic, I'll post more about it on my homeschool blog.
Yesterday we took Josh to the Dentist - she adjusted his bite (ground down some of his teeth) and finally got it so that the majority of his teeth are now touching (before it was just his very back molars - which had recently erupted - that were touching).
She called me back to the exam room and told me what she had done, and that we need to go back in another month so that she can monitor his bite - she might have to put some compound on some of his teeth to push some of his teeth down. She also informed us that Josh no longer had to wear his device anymore!!!!!!!! We are soooooooooooooo doing the happy dance right now - in total he had to wear it for 10 months .... I suppose in the grand scheme of things, that really isn't a long time - but when we had to pester him all the time to put it back in his mouth (after he had eaten), it was getting a little bit old, lol.
In July of 2008 we took Josh to the Dentist (we have been back to see her many times since) - he had to get a device put in his mouth, they needed to push one of his teeth out so that it would be even with the rest of his teeth. Every month, since July 2008, we have been back to see our Dentist so she could adjust the fit of the device.
Anyway, last night we took Josh back to see the Dentist and his tooth is finally out where it is supposed to be!!!!!!!! He now has to where it as a retainer to keep the tooth there while the bone grows in and fills up the space left from the tooth being pushed out.
He isn't totally done with the dental work - his back molars erupted a month, or so, ago and totally changed the bite of his mouth. The only teeth that actually touch, when he bites down, are the back molars that recently erupted - none of his other teeth actually make contact with the rest of his teeth (in other words - his top teeth don't touch his bottom teeth). We go back in another month (he hopefully can stop wearing his device at that time) and they are going to adjust his bite by grinding down some of the newly erupted molars - this will hopefully make it so that the other teeth will start touching each other. If adjusting the bite doesn't work, then we will have to look into other methods to get his teeth to touch.
