Today's spelling and a math meltdown
Posted in Homeschooling
The other day I had told you about the spelling unit that we are doing with the kids - both Joshua and Charlotte are working on the exact same spelling words (this just makes things easier for me, ). We were supposed to do our first Pre-Test yesterday, but do to life happening .... it didn't. So, today we had our very first spelling test (for this school year) - the kids thought that that it was pretty easy and when it came time to mark them, I had them switch papers (Josh marked Charlotte's and Charlotte marked Josh's), it is amazing at how much enthusiasm they showed when putting an "X" on their siblings test page, lol.
After they had finished marking each others paper, I gave them some looseleaf paper and told them to copy out the words correctly and then look up the meaning of the words in their dictionaries, immediately the groaning started .... and got even louder when I told them that they had to copy out the definitions, lol. You would have thought that I had done the worst possible thing to them the way they were carrying on, thankfully it was all an act (okay, well most of it was, lol). Once they had their assignments, they quickly got out their dictionaries and got to work - they were even helping each other out with looking up the words and making a game of who could get to the next word first.
Math on the other hand was a totally different story - Charlotte is notorious for trying to get out of doing her math work. Not that I entirely blame her, it was never my favorite subject either .... it is, however, a subject that needs to be done. She tried various tactics today and finally, as a last resort, started with the tears - I stayed strong and told her that it was something she needed to finish today, how long it took was up to her but if it was not finished by 3:00, she would be staying home tonight and doing it for homework (the kids have Cubs and Scouts tonight which is something Charlotte really, really enjoys). Right now, as I am typing this, she is bent over her school books working very hard on her math.

Ahhhh, the pleasures of home schooling.... aren't they grand????
Sorry to hear about the math problems... it must be in the air. Jordan is also having math problems today, major anger issues where math is concerned today. On the plus side he did manage to get it done in the allotted time. The rest of the day has been going well. Only two more things to finish and then they are done.
I went to click on the link for your homeschool blog but the link is gone. What happened to it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think the biggest problem for Charlotte was that she was doing her math in the afternoon - she fights me the most if she works on it then. On the plus side, she just got her math done in time today - so the house is now very quiet since Don took the kids to Cubs & Scouts.
I decided that I will be shutting down my other blog - I am going to be concentrating more on blogging here, and it is already set up for whatever entries I want to add. Besides, making changes on two blogs ..... that just gets downright confusing, lol.
Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
