Our day
Posted in Daily Musings
The other day, while we were at Mug Up, Pam and I were talking about how to get Charlotte working on her math - she will literally try everything she can to get out of doing it, and if that doesn't work .... then she will be working on it for the majority of the afternoon and sometimes after supper as well. Her suggestion was to have her do her math as her first subject, we are now doing that but instead of it being her first subject, she does it as soon as she finishes her Bible copywork (which both kids do for 10 minutes each school day).
I have also upped that ante for her getting her school work done - if she gets it done by a set time, then she gets one candy (candy is basically Charlotte's currency, lol). This was another suggestion from Pam and it is working fantastic - Charlotte chooses her candy and it sits in the middle of the table until she is finished her math, if it is completed in one hour then she gets the candy. One hour sounds like a lot of time, but I will be slowly cutting back on the time that I have her work on it.
Since we switched when she does her math, schoolwork has been getting completed by lunch time - leaving us lots of time in the afternoon to run errands, or just basically do what we want to do.
I know that I was supposed to post a recipe today, but for some reason my computer did not send me my reminder and I remembered about half an hour ago. So, I will, hopefully, try and remember to post one tomorrow when I get home from work.
I have had a request to post a tutorial on how I make the covers for my Swiffer duster - I haven't forgotten, I'm still working on it, though, and will post it as soon as I get it done.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
