Recipe Friday - Taco Seasoning Mix

In our house we use Taco Seasoning for more than just mixing in hamburger to make taco's with. I mix it with some cornmeal and then use that as a coating on our chicken when we bake it, last night it was mixed in with the hamburger to go on our pizza's - it is a very versatile spice in our house and when I make it up, I make enough to fill a quart jar.

A few years ago, I started making my own mix for it - the recipe was shared by a friend, but I have tweaked it a little bit to make it something that our whole family enjoys. One major bonus to making this mix, it is totally Gluten Free so Josh can use it without worrying about having any reactions to it.

Taco Seasoning Mix

1 tsp salt
2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp chili powder
1/8 tsp cayenne
1 Tbsp cornstarch

Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container.

To Use:
2 Tbsp Taco Seasoning Mix
1 cup water
1 pound lean hamburger

Mix together in a pan with cooked hamburger and cook until fairly dry.

thanks for this recipe. I like to buy it in bulk and tried making it myself, but don't like it so well. I'll try your recipe and see. Good idea to use it for more than just tacos!! Jill

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar

***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!

* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.

* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
