The past few days

Posted in knitting

Last week we started school (on the 7th to be exact) and so far it has been going really  well.  The kids are getting their routines down pat and are enjoying having the structure of school to again guide their lives, lol, (translation:  they were getting bored, lol).

Last month in my knitting group some of us decided that we wanted to do another knitting exchange.  This is the third one that I have participated in and I really have to say that you ladies spoil me, lol, not that I mind, lol.  This time we had Don draw the names so that no one (not even me) knew who had who's name - these have got to be some of the most fun things that I have done.  We get our partners name and then we start shopping for them, in the box we include yarn, some candies, tea, some put in other little neat things that they think their partner will really like - oh, and this exchange we added our favorite salad recipes.  Here is a picture of the package that Jill sent me:

In the picture there are 2 different colors of Sugar n' Cream yarn, 2 balls of Crafts Knitting Yarn.  A package of Tea Rose bath salts.  2 packages of candies (Riesen and Mac Tavish hard candies - they remind me of Werthers).  A zipper pull that has a sweater on 2 needles.  2 different kinds of tea (Earl Grey and Chrysanthemum Green Tea).  A book (The Shop on Blossom Street).  A notebook with hearts on the front of it.  A travel mug that Jill made the insert for (it says "Don't Needle The Knitter", lol).  2 Hersheys chocolate bars.  A fridge magnet that says "Dust is a country accent", lol.  A yellow pen that has a clip on the top of it and it says "My Pen" on the side of it.  A pattern for a crocheted bag (made with granny squares - it is soooooo cute).  And (as if that wasn't enough, lol) 5 recipes for salads (one of them is for a Pear and Avocado salad that I have been trying to get the recipe off of her for a while now, lol).  Thanks so much for everything, Jill - you really know how to spoil a girl, lol.

Last week I had been working like crazy to get a baby blanket done - I posted pictures of it (Daniel is modeling it).  Anyway, I finished that up on Friday (the 3rd) and since it was chilly and rainy here, I decided that I needed a little something to keep me warm .... but not so big that it would be really bulky and in the way (know what I mean?).  I started this on Saturday, during my coffee and lunch breaks, and I finished it yesterday at around 5:00.  So, here is the result of me needing something to knit (that wasn't the Pink Monstrosity Cardigan, lol):

I wanted a short triangle shawl (so when I was folding laundry or making supper, it wouldn't get in the way).  About halfway into making this thing, I decided that I wanted it to kind of drape over my shoulders and stay there, so I started doing a couple of knit 2 together in the center of it (that is why there is a 'V' at the top of it).  I wasn't following a pattern at all for this thing and I didn't write anything down for it, lol, I was basically just winging it as I went along, lol.

this is a close up of the stitch that I used for the shawl, and also to show how the thick and thin yarn looks worked up.

This is the yarn that I used.  The color is called Caramel - I think it should have been called 'Oatmeal', lol.  It has 40% wool, 30% Acrylic and 30% Ramie - it is a 75 gram ball and I used about 4 and a half of them, oh and I also used a US size 11 circular knitting needle to make it.

I told Don when I was making the shawl that as soon as I got it finished the weather would turn nice again - last night and today has been just gorgeous out, lol.  Oh, well, at least I am now ready for when the weather gets cooler (for real), lol.

I love hearing about other peoples projects...especially knit and crochet projects. I love knitted things...I just am not good at knitting. I can do it, but I tend to get bored with the project and never finish. lol I crochet instead...for some reason I have more patience with that. :)

Iced Coffee Syrup

≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar

***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!

* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.

* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
