MIA
I was talking to Pam yesterday and it appears that I left you all kind of hanging on whether Don and Josh made it home, lol. I am pleased to let you all know that they are home and that everyone is very glad that they are here. They got home about 3:00 in the morning on the 3rd, I woke up and when Don came into the bedroom I gave him a big hug and kept repeating "You're home, you're home!" - we then sat and talked for a couple of hours before we finally fell asleep.
I also see that I missed posting a recipe for Recipe Friday - guess I'll get caught up on that on this Friday coming up, that will give me a chance to find a good recipe to post, lol.
Today was our official first day back to school for the 2007 - 2008 school year, the kids did a great job with their school work today. Don would like to see a good review done with Cursive Writing, so we bought the kids each their own workbook on cursive writing so that they could practice it (I will eventually get where I am requiring them to do more of their assignments in handwriting instead of printing this year) - however, we are not having them do the work in the workbooks. I am printing off lined paper for their handwriting practice so that if their writing starts to get sloppy .... the workbooks come back out for review.
For Social Studies this year, we are doing Unit Studies on the different Provinces and Territories of Canada. Charlotte chose to do Ontario and Joshua has chosen to do Quebec, I made up some notebook pages for just this purpose and they are thrilled that they get to research, draw, color and fill in the blanks on these sheets, lol.
This morning in Grammar, we learned about Subjects and Predicates - we also learned about Subject Helper and Predicate Helpers. I used window writers on our dining room window (as well as using the white board with dry erase markers) - window writers have got to be the neatest invention, when you write on your window with them, they are kind of see through but as they dry they become more solid (transparent and opaque, right?????).
On the knitting front, I have set aside the Pink Monstrosity Cardigan so that I can get a baby blanket done up for a friend of mine - I found out on Saturday (the 4th) that I need to have it done by Friday (the 10th), I think I must like knitting under pressure, lol. This is the baby blanket that I am doing, it is called the Sweet and Simple Swaddling Blanket - I am really enjoying working on this blanket, the pattern is easily memorized and it is going fairly quickly (that could just be because it isn't that cardigan, lol). Once I have the blanket done I will be sure to post pictures of it - I'll more than likely use Daniel (Charlotte's doll) as the model for it, he is a very good model for the baby stuff that I knit up, lol.

I like the sweet and simple blanket wrap is there a crochet pattern?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am really liking this pattern as well. Ummmmm, have never seen a crocheted version of it, but then again, I just stumbled onto this pattern (I was actually looking for bunting patterns at the time, lol). Maybe try checking out Google for a crochet swaddling blanket.
Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
