Rumors
Have you ever sat back and wondered how rumors get started? I know, not really high on my list of priorities either, but it came to my attention that my family and I are the recent victims of a rumor making the rounds in our small town - so I have been kind of thinking about that lately.
The other day our Minister phoned and left a message on our answering machine, saying that she had heard that we would not be returning to the church that we have attended for about the last 5 years, she went on to say that she heard that it was because of something that had happened and that I was upset about it - now, please keep in mind that I am not writing everything that was said because
- I really don't feel that it needs to be re-said, and
- I really don't want to fuel any more gossiping about this issue (I am just trying to help put an end to what is being said).
I will point out that no names were mentioned to me on who told our Minister this tidy bit of incorrect information, just that it was told to her by a concerned congregation member and our Minister wanted to get it straightened out before any more ill feelings occurred.
For the record:
- Yes, we have been absent from Church this past while (mainly due to family commitments since my Dad passed away).
- Yes, we do have full intentions of returning to Church (and it looks like it will be happening sooner than later since the family commitments are settling down quite a bit).
- No, nobody at our Church has done anything to upset me, Don or the kids so where this person got their information - I have no idea.
- No, I didn't tell anyone in our small town that I was upset and that we would not be returning to Church, so again - where this person got their information from .... no idea.
- Yes, we are very happy at the Church that we attend. The sermons are insightful and thought provoking, the kids love the Sunday School program and the people who attend are always friendly to us.
- And last, but certainly not least, I am not mad or upset or emotional right now as I am typing this - just really confused that someone would choose to spread these lies about me and my family.
Let me just close with this little bit of Scripture from the book of Proverbs:
Slander not a servant to his master, in case he curse you, and you be held guilty.
[Proverbs 30:10]
Now to me this is saying that we shouldn't talk falsely about other people ("talk falsely about" is the definition given in the Dictionary that I am looking at right now). Can any of us, with a clear conscious, say that we have never done this? I don't think so, it is a human problem that we all need to work on (some more than others), and that hopefully we outgrow as we become mature adults.

What a great attitude you displayed over this! I admire you for keeping your cool.
Hope it all blows over without any more confusion or hurt feelings.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
